<p>Adapted from the Roald Dahl novel, audiences have taken Matilda Wormwood&#8217;s David and Goliath inspired story right into their hearts.&nbsp;This mega-hit from the Royal Shakespeare Company has scooped over 100 awards – 24 of those for Best Musical, no less – and landed a Guinness World Record for winning a whopping seven Oliviers. With nearly 12 million people across 100 cities having seen it since it launched in 2011, it’s safe to say&nbsp;<em>Matilda</em>&nbsp;is a full-blown global phenomenon. The stats don’t lie, people.</p>

<p>If you think it&#8217;s too young for your brood, you couldn&#8217;t be more wrong. For families featuring a dreamy seven-year-old and a perma-scowling teen, finding days out that everyone enjoys is harder than getting a lie-in. But&nbsp;<em>Matilda</em>&nbsp;is that rare unicorn – a clever, chaotic, crowd-pleasing marvel that hits the sweet spot for all.</p>



<p>The little ones will cackle at cake fights and chalk tricks, while teens will rate the razor-sharp humour and fast-paced storyline (we even clocked a LOL from ours – praise be). With RSC-level polish and Dahl’s delicious darkness, it’s pure gold for multigenerational mayhem.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-full-throttle-theatrics">Full throttle theatrics</h2>

<p>The staging is creative and jaw-dropping in equal measure – the special effects are pure wizardry. Matilda’s mind-bending telekinetic powers and Amanda Thripp’s airborne pigtail moment both defy logic (and gravity). The cast pop up from every corner of the theatre too, so no nodding off in Row G. It’s immersive, it’s high energy, it’s magic – quite literally. And yes, Trunchbull does make you jump. Consider yourself warned.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-tale-you-know-done-better">The tale you know, done better</h2>

<p>If you loved the book, the Nineties film, or Emma Thompson’s gloriously grotesque Trunchbull in the 2022 remake, this is your nostalgic core memory reloaded. With book by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin&#8217;s songwriting, it&#8217;s a familiar plot, but bolder, brasher and 10 times more bonkers in the best possible way. A proper goosebumps moment for grown-ups as well as a total treat for the kids. It’s not just a musical &#8211; it’s a full-sensory love letter to the story we never quite grew out of.</p>

<p>Tim Minchin – the award-winning musical mastermind behind <em>Matilda</em> – has created a whip-smart soundtrack that&#8217;s so good it sticks. From the rousing <em>When I Grow Up</em>&nbsp;to the riotous&nbsp;<em>Revolting Children</em>, these tunes will live rent-free in your head until Christmas. Expect emotion. Expect ugly crying. Minchin’s brilliance snagged an Olivier Award in 2012, and here’s the kicker: if you’re one of those “musicals aren’t for me” types, you will be converted. Resistance is futile.</p>
