<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-where">WHAT? WHERE?</h3>



<p><a href="https://www.mykonostheoxenia.com/">Theoxenia </a><a href="https://www.mykonostheoxenia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hotel</a> is a retro-glam five-star retreat nestled right beside Mykonos Town’s iconic windmills. A rare combination of boutique cool and central location (literally a short walk from the restaurants, clubs and bars), it’s one of the island’s original luxury hotels, built in the 1960s (now a listed historic property) and famously adored by Jackie O and Grace Kelly. The hotel has been restored to maintain its mid-century spirit while adding a fresh dose of Mykonos chic. Despite its central setting, it boats seclusion, lush gardens and sea views which give it a surprisingly serene feel.</p>

<p>With just 52 rooms and suites, this is a place that feels personal, not pretentious. You’re moments from all the buzzy bars, clubs, boutiques and the island’s most Instagrammed sunsets, but you can also retreat back to palm-shaded calm with a cocktail in hand when ready to escape.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">THE VIBE</h3>

<p>The hotel’s design nods to its original ‘60s glamour, think arched windows, geometric prints, and antique brass details layered with a modern, minimalist palette. Bougainvillaea tumbles down whitewashed walls, and the scent of jasmine drifts through the air.</p>



<p>The pool scene is social but casual, and the staff have a ‘nothing’s too much trouble’ air about them that makes you feel instantly looked after. It&#8217;s rock star style treatment, with a poolside menu offering delights cooked up by their Michelin star chef. But retaining it&#8217;s cool, it’s the kind of place where you&#8217;re just as likely to see someone sipping champagne as you are curled up with a book in a kaftan.</p>

<p>Rooms at Theoxenia are a love letter to modernist Greek design. Think clean lines, organic fabrics, and a palette of whites, beiges, and sun-washed blue. It&#8217;s boutique calm meets mid-century flair. Beds are huge and cloud-soft, with blackout curtains, double glazing and plump pillows you’ll want to smuggle home.</p>

<p>Each room has a balcony or terrace many with views of the sea or garden and the occasional retro flourish, nods to the hotel’s 1960s heritage without feeling kitsch. Bathrooms are sleek, stocked with luxe toiletries and fluffy robes. Some rooms even feature their own swimming pool, so do splash out if you can. And fancy a floating breakfast in your pool? Just ask. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h3>



<p>The hotel’s restaurant is a hidden gem in its own right. Mornings begin with a generous buffet breakfast under the pergola. Including homemade pies, Greek pastries, fresh fruit, thick yoghurt with spoonfuls of honey all served until midday (your hangover will be grateful). While lunch is a range of Greek meats and seafoods, and dinner ramps up the romance with white linen, candlelight, and a sophisticated, seasonal menu.</p>



<p>With all the cocktails to choose from that you&#8217;d expect, wine includes Greek and is all well-chosen. Service is warm and considered, and you never feel rushed. It’s refined, but unshowy. You could believe you were back in the 60s heydays, it feels very Old Hollywood glam with a cool rock&#8217;n&#8217;roll edge.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">SPA</h3>



<p>While Theoxenia doesn’t have a full-scale spa complex, what it offers is quietly luxurious, high tech and focused on personalisation. There’s a petite wellness suite where you can book a range of treatments, from deep tissue massages to glow-up facials using Greek botanical skincare lines. I tried out the <a href="https://www.gharieni.com/mlx-idome-detox/">Far Infrared, Plasma &amp; Light </a><a href="https://www.gharieni.com/mlx-idome-detox/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Treatment</a> (which is said to burn up to 800 calories in one sesh) and promote revitalisation. Inside the heated dome, with the face mask on it was very sweaty and not for the claustrophobic. Next time I would opt for a massage, but was very happy about the calorie deficit before dinner.</p>

<p>If location is everything, Theoxenia is the jackpot. You’re moments, literally, from the iconic windmills, Mykonos Town’s tangle of whitewashed alleys, and all the designer boutiques, galleries, and late-night cocktail bars you could wish for. A drink (or two) at the famous Jackie O club is a must, and <a href="https://mosaicofmykonos.com/">Mosaic</a> serves fantasic late night dinner with views of the sea.</p>



<p>Culture vultures can take a day trip to the sacred island of Delos, while stylish wanderers will love the artisan studios tucked between the high-end shops. Need help planning? The concierge is very friendly and happy to help.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-not-really-kid-friendly-and-that-s-ok">NOT REALLY KID FRIENDLY (AND THAT&#8217;S OK)</h3>



<p>This isn’t a ‘kids club and inflatable flamingos’ type of stay. It’s great for tweens and teens who’ll enjoy the island’s energy, but families with toddlers may prefer somewhere with more structured entertainment or beach access on the doorstep. There are also a few steep drops around the building due to the historic nature of the site which might stop parents of little one properly chilling out. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">ACCESSIBILITY</h3>



<p>As a heritage building built over 60 years ago, parts of the hotel might be hard to access for those in a wheelchair. The main Mykonos streets can also be challenging with cobbles and steps, do be aware. It’s worth contacting the hotel ahead of time if you have specific needs, they’ll do their utmost to accommodate.</p>

<p>Theoxenia is a rare find: a heritage hotel that doesn’t feel stuck in the past, offering a slice of vintage glamour right at the heart of Mykonos Town. It’s elegant without being fussy, stylish without showing off, and brilliantly located for those who want a town-and-beach experience with zero faff.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-for">GOOD FOR</h3>



<p>A dream for couples after a stylish, well-located base that’s close to the buzz but calm enough to retreat to after a night out. It’ll charm design lovers with its retro details and satisfy foodies with its thoughtful menu and wine list. It’s also great for small groups of friends wanting to be right in the heart of town without compromising on style or service.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-not-for">NOT FOR</h3>



<p>This isn’t the place for big resort energy or full-throttle family holidays. If you’re looking for waterslides, kids’ clubs or a dedicated beach with loungers, you’ll be better off elsewhere. Those needing full-scale spa facilities or step-free access to every area may want to explore newer resort-style properties.</p>
