<p>Timothée Chalamet is fast becoming a Boxing Day staple, and <strong><em>Marty Supreme </em></strong>marks his third consecutive festive-season blockbuster. This stylish biopic &#8211; loosely inspired by the life of ping-pong legend Marty Reisman &#8211; looks utterly smashing. Chalamet plays Marty and charts his rise from working-class New Yorker to 22-time major title winner, culminating in his record-breaking victory as the oldest national racket-sport champ at 67. Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher round out the eclectic ensemble, while director Josh Safdie brings his trademark intensity to this larger-than-life sporting saga. Be warned: you may emerge desperate to dig out the paddles after watching.</p>

<p>The first half of Jon M. Chu’s <em>Wicked</em> had audiences positively green with delight – and now comes the darker, dirtier second act.<strong><em> For Good</em></strong> picks up exactly where we left off, with Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba stepping fully into her power (and infamy) as the so-called Wicked Witch of Oz. The fairytale sparkle fades fast as the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) brand her an enemy of the state, and all that glittering Shiz-school sisterhood gives way to revolution, sacrifice and heartbreak. All your favourites return – Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode – in this sweeping, emotionally loaded finale. <p>Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson sharing the screen? Enough said! In&nbsp;<strong><em>Die My Love</em></strong>, director Lynne Ramsay (<em>We Need to Talk About Kevin</em>) delivers a bold, visually arresting deep-dive into postpartum psychosis, with Lawrence at her fearless best. Opposite a quietly intense Pattinson, she unravels in a role that’s raw, haunting, and impossible to look away from. Ramsay’s signature psychological edge meets these powerhouse performances head on in this gripping exploration of motherhood, identity, and the thin line between reality and delusion. We&#8217;ve seen it (read our review<a href="https://muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/film-tv/film-review-die-my-love/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> here</a>) and it&#8217;s not one for the faint-hearted, but it&#8217;s absolutely unforgettable.</p>

<p>Nearly a decade after&nbsp;<em><strong>Zootropolis</strong></em>&nbsp;first charmed audiences (and nabbed an Oscar), everyone’s favourite odd-couple crimefighters are back on the beat. Sly fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) and ever-optimistic bunny cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) reunite for another fur-flying adventure – this time involving a slippery new face, voiced by Ke Huy Quan. Idris Elba, Shakira, Quinta Brunson and Andy Samberg also lend their dulcets to this fam friendly watch that’s packed with humour, heart, and blink-and-you’ll-miss-it puns.</p>

<p>It’s been a long old wait for the next instalment of the&nbsp;<em>Avatar</em>&nbsp;saga, but&nbsp;<strong><em>Fire &amp; Ash</em>&nbsp;</strong>finally lands as film three of the planned five-movie arc (the final chapter isn’t due until 2031, FYI). Trouble continues to brew for Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) on the moon of Pandora as they fend off human invaders led by the ever-creepy Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang), as well as a new and fearsome Na’vi faction known as the Ash People. Kate Winslet, Sigourney Weaver, David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin also join the line-up in what’s almost certain to be another box-office behemoth.</p>

<p>Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried lead this deliciously twisty tale, adapted from the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden. Millie (Sweeney), desperate for a clean slate, signs on as a live-in housemaid for impeccably polished couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). Everything looks rosy at first, but behind the manicured perfection lurks a seductive little web of secrets, power plays and scandals that spiral<em> fast.</em> Glossy, gasp-inducing and just a little bit wicked, plus it&#8217;s nice to see Seyfried swap her <em>Mamma Mia </em>good-girl harmonising for something far more unhinged.</p>

<p>Dream double act incoming! Jack Black and Paul Rudd play besties Doug and Griff who have been inseparable since childhood, bonding over their shared devotion to that, ahem, “iconic” ’90s creature feature <strong><em>Anaconda.</em></strong> Now firmly in midlife-crisis territory, the pair decide it’s finally time to remake their beloved masterpiece &#8211; because what could possibly go wrong? Armed with questionable enthusiasm and a very wobbly plan, they plunge into the Amazon to start shooting. But when a real giant anaconda slithers onto their shambolic set, the boys’ goofy passion project takes a sharp turn from comedy to calamity. Sounds a hoot.</p>

<p>Already being hailed as&nbsp;<em>the</em>&nbsp;film of the year, and featuring a career-defining turn from Stellan Skarsgård,&nbsp;<strong><em>Sentimental Value</em></strong>&nbsp;is a sharp scripted, emotionally layered drama, with serious bite. Sisters Nora and Agnes are reluctantly reunited with their estranged, and still wildly charismatic, father Gustav (Skarsgård), a once-legendary director staging a comeback. When he offers Nora, a respected stage actress, the lead in his new film, it seems like a peace offering… until she turns it down and the role mysteriously lands in the lap of a fresh-faced Hollywood starlet (Elle Fanning). Cue family tensions, bruised egos and a culture clash of theatrical proportions. Smart, spiky and beautifully acted, this one has awards written all over it.</p>
