Muddy Stilettos


<p>Choosing a paint colour should be simple. Instead, three days later you&#8217;re surrounded by tester pots, convinced&nbsp;<em>this</em>&nbsp;white is warmer than&nbsp;<em>that</em>&nbsp;white and wondering whether &#8216;greige&#8217; has quietly become a personality trait. We&#8217;ve all been there.</p>



<p>That&#8217;s exactly why we don&#8217;t just take a brand&#8217;s word for it. We invited 20 Muddy readers to join our&nbsp;<strong>Muddy Recommends</strong>&nbsp;testing panel to put <strong><a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dulux Heritage Velvet Matt</a></strong>&nbsp;paint through its paces in their own homes. No styling teams. No perfectly lit show homes. Just real families, real decorating projects and the occasional paint-covered sock. The brief? Give us your honest verdict. Spoiler alert: it went rather well.</p>

<p>Our panel wasn&#8217;t made up of first-time decorators. In fact, the majority told us they usually buy premium paint brands including&nbsp;Farrow &amp; Ball, Little Greene and COAT, so Dulux Heritage wasn&#8217;t exactly getting an easy ride. Yet after transforming bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and even a nursery, the results spoke for themselves:</p>

<p>One of our favourite things about the project was seeing how differently everyone interpreted their makeover. There wasn&#8217;t a magnolia feature wall in sight. The end result? Homes that felt warmer, smarter and beautifully lived in.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-impressed">What impressed?</h2>



<p>Coverage came up time and time again. Several readers commented that they needed fewer coats than expected, while others praised how smoothly the paint applied, making decorating feel far less of a weekend-long endurance event. The Velvet Matt finish was another big winner, delivering that beautifully chalky, heritage look while still feeling robust enough for real life.</p>

<p>We&#8217;re picky about what earns a place in&nbsp;<strong>Muddy Recommends</strong>. It has to be something we&#8217;d happily tell our best friend to spend their own money on. So when a panel of interiors-loving readers – many already loyal to Britain&#8217;s most coveted paint brands – unanimously says they&#8217;d recommend a product, we sit up and take notice.</p>



<p>Would we use Dulux Heritage ourselves? Absolutely. Now, if someone could just come round and decide between&nbsp;Wishbone White&nbsp;and&nbsp;Candle Cream&nbsp;for the downstairs loo, that would be tremendously helpful.</p>
