<p>That&#8217;s right, the drastic &#8216;do which often signifies the wearer is going through a monumental life change is top of the trend list for 2024. We joke, the pixie is powerful, bold, versatile as hell and exudes some brave feminine energy that we could all do with a dose of. As seen on actress Ruth Negga and most recently on singer Coi Leray at the Grammy&#8217;s, the new pixie is textured, playful and fun. Think further back than 90s goddesses, Toni Braxton and Halle Berry, further back than Mia Farrow à la <em>Rosemary&#8217;s Baby </em>but to the roaring 20s (we know, fitting) to Josephine Baker and you&#8217;re just about there – slick manipulated curls, finger waves and all.</p>

<p>Forget what you think you know about the pixie, they&#8217;re not just for elfin looking waifs with ethereal features, Eugene is confident anyone can rock a crop! For rounder face shapes, he said ask for the sides to be taken short and very close to the face like Michelle Williams&#8217; icy blond &#8216;do of recent years. Longer faces should play with width a bit more, think Linda Evangelista&#8217;s iconic pixie of the 80s and 90s. Suitable for all hair types, however the hair does need to lie flat so curly and coily-haired babes may need to get their natural hair relaxed before going for the chop.</p>



<p>Though easy to style, maintenance is high to keep your pixie in check. The style relies on tight lines and becomes hard to manage when it grows out of shape. Rather than booking for a wash, cut and blow dry every three weeks, Eugene advised to book in for a perimeter cut (the pixie equivalent of a fringe trim) in-between appointments to keep your style looking fresh and in shape.</p>

<p>And right at the other end of the hair spectrum, 2024 is also all about big hair. Great news if the aforementioned pixie filled you and your lengthy locks with dread. We&#8217;re talking bohemian, go big or go home waves – but without the frizz. Think H.E.R and SZA&#8217;s gorgeous tresses or, for those who can remember, 80s era Chaka Khan and Diana Ross. You need a lot of hair to achieve this so if yours isn&#8217;t particularly long or thick, extensions are a must according to Eugene. You need to start with quite a tight corkscrew curl which you will then shake and tease out, so unless you&#8217;re a naturally curly girl, get your rollers out! </p>

<p>And behind every big bouffant is an army of fantastic haircare heroes to help achieve and bolster the look. Zoe and Nicky advised using award-winning frizz fighter Colour WOW Dream Coat Supernatural Spray to achieve shiny nourished looking curls which will withstand humidity and damp British weather. Follow this with something textured like Cool Girl SuperLift Texturising spray, which adds grit, lift and volume. Zoe recommends spraying a hairbrush with texturising spray or hairspray then brushing out the curls, this will fight frizz, add shine and give the style some serious staying power. She also advised hopping on the collagen supplement train which will help thicken and strengthen your mane.</p>

<p>The love affair with grey and ash blonde is over! Hair colour is warming up in 2024. For brunettes, add a touch of rouge to obtain the colour Nicola has coined as Rose Brunette – a subtle wash of red which compliments any skin tone. Ask your colourist for something in-between a blue red and an orange red, that way you get a great depth of colour without it being too in your face. Although the likes of Dua Lipa can pull off a full head of cherry red, there are certain things only a pop star can get away with &#8211; and those under 30, according to Nicola, ouch! Instead keep some of your natural colour showing through like the gorgeous Rose Williams, above, for a wearable, fun use of colour.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re hard and fast on blondes having more fun than this little glow up from 2023&#8217;s beige, honey tones, aka the Bambi Blonde, is for you. Though warmer shades of blonde remain the order of the day, this year sees a sidestep away from tawny, fawn shades, towards lighter vanilla tones. Ask your stylist to apply these lighter shades in a halo effect around the crown of the hair for the ultimate sun-kissed beachy blonde. For those, uh hum, unnatural blondes, Nicola recommends leaving a slight root shadow to help with regrowth and minimise the damage to the hair. </p>
