<p>The Fiat Panda will always have a place in my heart, as it was my first car as a teen. It’s come a long way since that 80s model, which was more go-kart than Grande. This latest iteration nods to the original Panda’s iconic styling – only this time it’s on steroids. The hybrid is almost identical to the electric version, but combines a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a small electric motor. There’s no need to plug in, making it a hassle-free hybrid. Perfect for budget-conscious, eco-warriors who still want personality.</p>

<p>Suzuki’s first EV has arrived, and it’s clearly been hitting the gym. This compact crossover flexes its AWD (all-wheel-drive) muscles with go-anywhere capability – think muddy lanes, beach runs and the odd weekend adventure – while still turning up looking effortlessly thrown together. Inside, you’ll find the comfort and practicality you’d expect from Suzuki. It’s the kind of car that’s as happy tackling the school run as it is heading off the beaten track.</p>

<p>A diminutive EV with modern styling, the Firefly is here to shake up the urban runaround scene. Chic and cleverly designed, it’s a dwarf on the outside, a giant on the inside (404-litre boot!) – and an absolute blast to drive. Rear-wheel drive gives it a turning circle tighter than your diary in December, while its quirky good looks put it miles ahead of the faceless competition. This is an EV with real personality.</p>

<p>Mercedes’ new electric CLA is gunning for GOAT status. Sleek, sporty and just shy of a coupé, it’s packed with starry details. Literally. There are twinkling stars on the grille. Too much? Never. But it’s not just a pretty package. It has a huge range – nearly 490 miles – and super-speedy top-ups (186 miles in 10 mins). And when you do have to pull over, you can stream Netflix while you charge. But be warned, it won’t yet play nice with older UK chargers. Bloody gorgeous to look at, blisteringly capable and (almost) anxiety-proof. We want.</p>

<p>IM stands for Intelligent Mobility – and is a mash-up of Chinese heavyweights MG, parent company SAIC, and Alibaba (aka the Amazon of China). So far, so what? Well, this Tesla Model 3 rival is practical and easy on the eye (a bit like us). There&#8217;s loads of cabin space with clever storage and a 457-litre boot. The MASSIVE Star Trek-style screen is a bit overwhelming and definitely distracting, but that’s modern cars for you (God, we sound old). Two batteries promise 304 – 441 miles of range, with the Performance model hitting 62mph in 3.2 secs. Hold onto your hats! And thanks to rear-wheel steering, it can crab-walk into a Waitrose space.</p>

<p>Compact and clever, Toyota’s Urban Cruiser delivers electric SUV ease in a city-friendly size – easy to park and roomy enough for daily life. Built alongside Suzuki’s e-Vitara, it shares the same smart engineering, so you’re getting proven practicality with a stylish Toyota twist. Official range figures are still hush-hush, but expect around 250 miles from the bigger battery. Inside, it’s comfortable and well thought-out, with a layout almost identical to its Suzuki sibling – just wearing a different badge and a bit more attitude.</p>

<p>Another week, another Chinese newcomer – this time it’s Chery International. New to UK roads but a fixture in China since 1997, Chery arrives with this seven-seat hybrid offering a whopping 750-mile range (plus 56 miles on electric alone). It’s roomy, well-equipped and comes with a confidence-boosting seven-year warranty. The third row is best for kids or short trips, but this newcomer is a comfy, budget-friendly alternative to pricier rivals.</p>

It has a range of up to 349 miles and super-fast charging speeds, which takes you from 10 to 80% in about 25 mins. Striking, practical and genuinely head-turning, the EV9 proves electric family cars can be as exciting as they are useful.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Here comes Geely – a Chinese brand you might not know yet, but you soon will. The EX5 is a neat electric SUV with a decent 264-mile range, quick-charge ability, and handling fine-tuned by the same clever folk behind Lotus. It’s practical, easy on the eye, and is rumoured to be pitched at a price that’ll make the big-name rivals sweat. Keep your eyes peeled – this one could be the dark horse of 2025.</p>

However, there is nothing minimal about the price tag. Built for covering big miles at frankly indecent speeds, the Polestar 5 proves it’s not just Volvo’s cooler cousin – it’s the one everyone’s secretly crushing on.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Swedish brand’s first all-electric saloon is sleek, understated, and quietly luxurious. Inside, it’s classic Volvo: minimalist and beautifully made, but with a hippy twist. There are a lot of recycled materials, including the fabric which is made of recycled plastic bottles. Volvo reckons this ES90 has a range of up to 435 miles and it’ll go from 10 to 80 per cent charge in around 20 mins. That&#8217;ll do nicely!</p>
