Think picture-perfect villages bursting with quaint character, all within easy reach of both Leicester and Nottingham (so you&#8217;re never far from civilisation&#8230;or cocktails). This foodie haven is packed to the brim with artisan cheesemakers, boutique distilleries, and bakeries to keep the larger well-stonked. Perfectly placed right in the heart of Wymeswold, with the village church in view and not one but <em>two</em> pubs on your doorstep, this chocolate box cottage is the dream rural escape with all the trimmings. <p>Formerly the village shop, this beautifully reimagined home blurs heritage with high-end style &#8211; original fireplaces, exposed oak beams, and the charming shopfront all lovingly preserved to create a space that’s as elegant as it is characterful.</p>

<p>It’s all in the details here &#8211; and they’ve nailed every one. Think must-have appliances, a chic shaker-style kitchen, and a boot room to stash all your bits and bobs. There’s an essential washing machine (tick), two generous living areas, and even a games room, all wrapped around a spacious open-plan kitchen-diner with Crittall-style doors that swing open to a sunny terrace and garden. Out there? A BBQ and sink-into-me outdoor sofas, made for lazy afternoons and al fresco lounging. </p>



<p>The kiddos are well catered for too with a trampoline and playhouse, so you can sit back and get stuck into whatever&#8217;s chilling in the wine fridge. You can also request hot tub hire for the property, ya know if you want to notch up the indulgence.</p>

<p>There are wood burning stoves in both main living areas, with some logs provided, so if you&#8217;re here during the colder months you can snuggle by the fire and crank up the cosy. </p>



<p>The decor is seriously stylish, with deep upholstered chairs, plush velvet sofas and Pooky-esque table lamps, carefully placed so you don&#8217;t ever have to resort to putting on the big light (a Muddy peeve). They’ve thought of absolutely everything &#8211; even down to the perfectly placed side tables, each styled with chic little vignettes, so you can effortlessly park your wine glass when it’s time for a cheeky break. Cheers to that!</p>

<p>The driveway fits at least three cars &#8211; ideal for bigger groups &#8211; and with space to sleep up to ten, this cottage is surprisingly spacious (don’t let the quaint exterior fool you). Equally, if you&#8217;re just four and a dog, as we were, you don&#8217;t feel as though you&#8217;re rattling around. The space wraps around you like a big, cosy hug &#8211; and honestly, good luck trying to drag yourself out the door!</p>

<p>Upstairs there are a five large and super comfy double bedrooms spread across the length of the cottage (are we still calling this a cottage?). The Master Suite is the pièce de résistance, featuring a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden, a stunning vaulted double-height ceiling, an adjoining dressing area with ample storage, and a bathroom complete with a roll-top bath and separate waterfall shower. Oh, and extra points for the gorgeously indulgent Bamford toiletries</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>

<p>The super spacious open plan kitchen diner is a total dream &#8211; massive island, sleek white granite worktops, an Everhot cooker (to cater for the whole clan), a no-wait boiling water tap, and a clever coffee cupboard for your morning caffeine hit. Did we already mention the wine fridge? There&#8217;s also a huge chunky wood dining table for grab everyone gatherings.</p>



<p>We rolled up to a basket bursting with essentials &#8211; bread, milk, butter &#8211; plus crisps, popcorn, crackers, and sweets. Basically, the perfect survival kit for anyone who forgot to hit the farm shop. Hunger? Not on this watch.</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t fancy slaving away over a hot stove? <a href="https://westaygroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">We Stay</a> can organise a private chef to come to the house and whip up something fabulous, or take your pick from one of Wymeswold&#8217;s two pub offerings. You can actually see <a href="https://threecrownswymeswold.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Three Crowns</a> from the house (if you strain your neck a bit), so it&#8217;s a very easy stagger home after some traditional pub grub &#8211; think fish and chips and homemade pies. We ventured slightly further afield for Sunday lunch &#8211; about twenty minutes away, to <a href="https://www.griffininnswithland.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Griffin</a> in Swithland (above), an absolute corker of a gastropub owned by cricketers, Stuart Broad and Harry Gurney, where there is a distinctly cricket themed decor vibe and fantastic space for al fresco dining. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-out-amp-about">OUT &amp; ABOUT</h2>

<p>If you’d rather stay put and soak up the village vibes, you’re in luck &#8211; there are plenty of peaceful country walks right on your doorstep, including the Macmillan Way, which intersects the village. But if you’re tempted to roam, Melton Mowbray is just 15 minutes away by car and proudly holds the title of Britain’s Rural Capital of Food &#8211; come for the Stilton, stay for the pork pie.</p>



<p>The foodie community in the entire region is actually super strong, with numerous festivals throughout the year including the&nbsp;East Midlands Food Festival, Pie Fest,&nbsp;Choc Festival and the&nbsp;Artisan Cheese Fest. </p>



<p>Wymeswold isn’t just about country strolls and cute cottages &#8211; it also throws a damn-good party. Enter <a href="https://glastonbudget.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Glastonbudget</a> festival &#8211; a fabulously fun festival packed with top-tier tribute acts, from Madonna to Oasis, ABBA to Fatboy Slim, plus a little Elton, Rolling Stones and even Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure. All the big names, none of the eye-watering ticket prices. And after all that dancing and dad-singing? Treat yourself to a well-earned spa day at nearby <a href="https://www.ragdalehall.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ragdale Hall</a>. You’ve earned it.</p>

<p>You&#8217;re really living the quirky country cottage dream here, so the bedrooms are all accessed via a fairly steep staircase and, downstairs, there are quite a few steps between living spaces.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG-FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Yes, we took our family dog along, but it&#8217;s worth noting that the garden is not gated and is open to the road. </p>

<p><strong>GOOD FOR:</strong> Marsh Mallow Cottage is a perfect space to gather family and friends in a large group, or as an easy family getaway. It would also make the ideal crash pad if you&#8217;re looking for wedding accommodation &#8211; Prestwold Hall (above) is just five minutes up the road &#8211; or if you&#8217;re heading to Trent Bridge for the cricket. </p>



<p><strong>NOT FOR:</strong> We&#8217;re talking peaceful, rural retreat, so if it&#8217;s action and nightlife you&#8217;re after this may not be the one for you.</p>
