<p>This fancy five-star at the foot of Mont Blanc in Cormayeur is steps from the ski lifts and historic town centre. Open until 8pm, its intimate spa is where Muddy would most like to recover from a days’ skiing.  We&#8217;d head straight for the Bioaquam path, which includes a steam bath, aroma sauna and relaxation whirlpool. Knees and thighs taken a hammering? Better book a contracture-relieving sports massage. Muscles stiffening up? Time for a massage with arnica and devil’s claw oil. There&#8217;s also a pool, fitness area and even forest bathing, though we think that might be a bit chilly in winter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If by ski and spa holiday, you&#8217;re really thinking more spa, less ski, this is the hotel for you. Yes the slopes are on your doorstep, but so to is a high tech spa with indoor and rooftop pools, nine treatment rooms, ice fountain and cold plunge pool and all the saunas (Finnish, rock and bio salt). The treatment list is longer than your arm ( and legs) and while you&#8217;re there, you might want to book a screening to measure your key biomarkers – translated from spa speak, that’s an MOT for your body and yes, they will be able to tell if you have been hitting the aprés ski hard. And did we mention there’s a separate spa for kids and teenagers, if you want to make it a family affair.  </p>

<p>The hotel&#8217;s Pure Altitude Spa&#8217;s aim is to &#8216;ensure that your return from skiing is as gentle as possible&#8217;, which sounds like heaven to Muddy. Gentle comes in the form of a rustic Nordic-inspired spa (think boulders and natural material) with a pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room wrapped in wood. Treatment-wise, it&#8217;s all about the wraps. For soothing and smoothing, try a honey and mountain wrap packed with skin-softening properties from native plants (edelweiss, blueberry, arnica montana), nourishing honey and ultra-hydrating shea butter.  Don&#8217;t miss out on the relaxation room, with its&nbsp;<em>trompe l’oeil</em> forest on the walls and a Jacuzzi.</p>
