Trend barometer! What’s hot (or not) for 2022
Pinterest has released its predictions for the biggest (and most bonkers) trends in 2022 – but what do you think? Let’s head to the Muddy trend-o-meter to find out…
HOT
🔥 Lounge-erie

Bedtime just got a whole lot more chic. Time to ditch the holey joggers and stained PJs, and instead embrace a little luxury for 2022 with silky nightwear. Think monogrammed satin sets with matching robes, patterned eye masks like this tropical number from Alice Acreman, and silky bedding to slip into.
🔥 Altbashes

You know Muddy, any excuse for a party – and it looks like we’re not the only ones, as Pinterest searches for ‘break up cakes’, ‘adoption party themes’ and ’empty nest photoshoots’ are apparently through the roof. After two years of missed special occasions, we’re all for celebrating the little wins in life this year – even if they’re not exactly traditional.
🔥 Cuppa time

It’s time to start taking your morning brew a bit more seriously! With Dry Jan and booze-free ever more prevalent, afternoon tea is fast becoming the new cocktail hour. That means swapping your old Sports Direct mug for elegant china (we’re loving the Peace, Love and Paisley collection from T2) and experimenting with new blends and flavours.
🔥 Kidding around

From nostalgic childhood recipes to easy arts and crafts, we’re letting our inner child out to play this year. Searches for indoor swings and school-inspired hairstyles are up up up, and we’re eschewing fancy birthday dinners for discos, bouncy castles and jelly and ice cream. Now, where did I put my Tamagotchi?
🔥 Curve appeal

Art Deco-inspired interiors have been on the rise for years, but we’re going all out on curvy details in 2022. Painted arches, glass ball lamps, curved sofas and mid-century cocktail bars are all on our wish list this year – I’ve got my eye on this Sephy seat from Arlo & Jacob…
🔥 Flexercise

Can’t face another spin class? I hear ya, sister! This year, exercise is set to become a whole lot mellower, with Pinterest searches for low impact workouts, stretches in bed and walking in nature on the rise. Throw on some yoga pants and get your body moving in whatever way feels comfortable, no sweat (literally).
NOT
😱 Barkitechture

Look, I love a cute pooch as much as the next woman, but designing your house with your dog’s needs first seems – sorry – barking mad. Searches for ‘luxury dog room’ may be up 115%, and ‘catify your home’ searches might have quadrupled, but sorry Fido, the sofa’s mine.
😱 Rebel cuts

The mullet has been creeping back onto the scene for some time now (I blame Miley Cyrus for that one), but the newest trends include mohawks, dyed shaved heads and – wait for it – ‘Octopus hair’ (pictured). The teens can go to town with it, but I’m not feeling it for the subterranean look.
😱 Be jewelled

We know Y2K fashion is already huge this year, but I just can’t bring myself to get on board with tooth gems – although I’m apparently the only one, as Pinterest searches are up 85%.
😱 Oh my goth

Black is the new black? How original! In fairness, I wasn’t expecting to see searches for ‘goth baby clothes’ up by 120%, or ‘goth kitchen decor’ up by 85%, but after all we’ve been through in the last two years, I’ll be clinging to my dopamine-inducing colours like there’s no tomorrow.
