<p>Paint tins at the ready – <a href="https://www.dulux.co.uk/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dulux</a> has just revealed its&nbsp;<em>Colours of the Year 2026</em>&nbsp;and, plot twist, it’s not one shade but a whole&nbsp;<strong>Rhythm of Blues</strong>. For the first time ever, the colour gurus have chosen a trio:&nbsp;<strong>Mellow Flow™, Slow Swing™ and Free Groove™</strong>&nbsp;– three distinct blues designed to let you set your own tempo, whether that’s slow, steady or full-on disco.</p>



<p>Why blue? Well, when life feels like one long doom scroll (cost-of-living squeeze, climate jitters, group WhatsApp carnage), our homes need to be the sanctuary. Blue has long been the world’s favourite shade and, according to studies in neuroaesthetics, it really can soothe frazzled pulses and hush the brain chatter. It’s basically the colour equivalent of a deep exhale after a nightmare Zoom call.</p>

<p>The clever bit? Dulux hasn’t just picked three pretty paints out of the fan deck after one too many lattes. The&nbsp;<em>Colour Futures</em>&nbsp;team spend months poring over politics, economics, TikTok trends and design shifts. Their verdict: what we need right now is the freedom to go with the flow, slow the beat or crank up the volume – hence the three colour stories&nbsp;<strong>Flow, Slow and Free</strong>, each tuned to a different rhythm of life.</p>



<p>And the shades themselves?&nbsp;<strong>Mellow Flow</strong>&nbsp;is a soft, airy blue, like a seaside sky on a bracing morning walk – clarity, calm and breathing space in a tin.&nbsp;<strong>Slow Swing</strong>&nbsp;is its sultrier cousin, a deep, velvety blue with all the reassurance of a star-strewn midnight sky. And then there’s&nbsp;<strong>Free Groove</strong>&nbsp;– a vibrant, expressive splash of energy with the zing of a summer pool party.</p>

<p>On the interiors front, this trio couldn’t be more on trend. The chicest rooms right now are drenched in monochromatic decorating – layering colour across walls, woodwork, upholstery and even ceilings until your home looks like a glossy mag shoot (minus the stylist shoving your laundry basket out of shot). Dulux’s Rhythm of Blues is made for this: pair&nbsp;<strong>Slow Swing</strong>&nbsp;with earthy browns for spa-like grounding, team&nbsp;<strong>Mellow Flow</strong>&nbsp;with terracotta for convivial warmth, or throw&nbsp;<strong>Free Groove</strong>&nbsp;in with citrusy accents for Ibiza-in-January energy.</p>
