Quiet luxury, but for windows. And for 2026, they’re officially stepping into the spotlight. </p>

Think generous swathes of fabric, confident pleats and just a hint of theatre. We tapped curtain royalty&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://www.patgiddens.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pat Giddens</a></strong>&nbsp;– from a fifth-generation curtain-making family and the woman behind some of the country’s most beautiful homes (yes, including National Trust properties and houses belonging to Very Well Known Names) – for her insider take on what’s next. Here’s what you need to know.</p>

<p>Minimalism? She’s had her moment. Now it’s time for a little drama. Austrian, London and festoon blinds are swishing back onto the scene. Café curtains have graduated from cottage kitchens and are popping up in bathrooms (charming, practical, zero fishbowl effect). Sink skirts and under-counter curtains feel fresh rather than fussy. Door curtains are dividing spaces again – and keeping draughts firmly at bay. Upholstered headboards are getting taller. Valances and pelmets are creeping back in (sleeker, less chintzy). Reading nooks are being wrapped in fabric like a well-made mille-feuille.</p>



<p><strong>How to style it:</strong> Mix prints like you mean it – but make it tailored and the stick to limited colour palette. Florals with stripes. Gingham with checks. Even a flash of animal print if you’re feeling punchy. Add tassels, fringes or a contrast border to stop things falling flat. <p>Why have one window treatment when you can have two. Layering is the power move for 2026. Sheers with heavier drapes. Roman blinds sitting neatly beneath curtain panels. Bamboo or roller blinds softened with linen. It’s not just about looks (though, swoon). It’s about flexibility. Homes are working harder than ever – dining room by day, homework hub by night – and your windows need to keep up.</p>



<p><strong>How to style it:</strong> Let sheers filter the light during the day and add blackout or heavier panels for cosy evenings. In bathrooms, layering softens all that marble and porcelain. Don’t be afraid of a little pooling at the hem for relaxed elegance. Think texture: subtle stripes, chunky yarns, tactile weaves. Calm, curated, clever.</p>

<p>Matchy-matchy is back – but she’s grown up. Designers are echoing curtain fabrics across a room for that “of course it was always meant to be this way” finish. Think wallpaper in the same pattern as the upholstered headboard and curtains. Cushions cut from leftover fabric. Lampshades giving a subtle nod to the windows. It’s not about drowning the room in one pattern. It’s about rhythm and repetition. It&#8217;s one of those trends that require a bold approach. Half hearted attempts will look lacklustre.</p>

<p>If your house shouldn&#8217;t work on paper because it&#8217;s so extra, congratulations. You’re nailing it. 2026 is all about curated eclecticism. That heirloom armchair stays. The vintage market find you weren’t sure about? Even better. Rooms should feel evolved, not delivered in one cardboard-heavy drop. Curtains are the quiet fixers here – anchoring disparate pieces and smoothing the joins.</p>



<p><strong>How to style it:</strong> Ground the space with olive, rust or ochre. Warm it up with caramel and blush. Add depth with teal, berry or burgundy. Mix florals with geometrics, stripes with artisan prints. Matte next to gloss. Brass alongside chrome. It’s contrast – but confident.</p>

<p>In 2026, it’s all about the finishing touches. Passementerie (yes, that’s trims and braids) is having a moment. A narrow contrast border can make simple linen look architectural. A playful pom-pom trim? Instant joy.</p>

<p>Nature isn’t a trend – it’s the baseline. Homes are leaning into comfort, tactility and materials that age beautifully rather than date quickly. Linen, organic cotton, hemp, wool, even alpaca are leading the charge. Slubs and woven irregularities trump flat perfection. The palette is warming up too. Out: icy greys. In: ivory, cream, caramel; clay, rust, terracotta; soft greens and hazy sky blues.</p>



<p><strong>How to style it:</strong> Layer textured sheers beneath heavier natural drapes. Add café curtains for privacy without heaviness. Let colour respond to the light – curtains shift beautifully throughout the day, which makes even bolder tones feel softer. The result isn’t minimalist. It’s mindful, tactile and quietly luxurious.</p>
