The Langley, Iver

5-star and then some, the mega-swish spa at The Langley has a whole host of features to its name, including a 16-metre indoor swimming pool with an infinity edge, the only hotel hammam outside of London, and marble as far as the eye can see (it is the second biggest underground spa in Europe, after all).

As well as a thermal suite of rooms including amethyst crystal steam room and Himalayan salt sauna, there are five treatment rooms for you to book into. Expect classic (but extremely high quality) massages and facials, not to mention their signature Langley Spa Journeys, two-hour treatments that are designed to transport you to the distant shores of Bali/Malaysia/Darjeeling etc through aromatherapy and traditional techniques. Bodhi Tree Spa, Chalfont St Peter

Blending elements of Eastern and Western philosophies for the mind, body & soul, the ethos at this Muddy Award-winning day spa in leafy Chalfont St Peter ticks all the boxes for a relaxing day out. Facilities include an indoor heated pool, sauna, fitness studio and classes, plus the wellbeing offerings here are not to be missed, including six — count them, SIX! — specialised massages as well as Elemis facial and body treatments. Double down on the treats with a meal at the on-site fine-dining restaurant, The Lytton.


Lucknam Park,Chippenham, Wiltshire

Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Bath, Lucknam Park is an impressive Georgian manor house, just waiting for you to cosy up in a plush robe in its glorious spa. The spa is set within the walled gardens of the estate and boasts eight treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pool and a variety of thermal cabins, as well as an ultra-zen post-treatment relaxation room to while away the hours in.

Book in for the two-night spa and wellbeing break and you’ll be treated to a seasonal tasting dinner in the hotel’s Michelin Star Restaurant one evening and a delicious dinner in the stylish brasserie the other, alongside breakfast both mornings, an hour-long treatment per guest and use of the award-winning spa facilities.


Minster Mill, Witney

A Muddy favourite for romantic Cotswold getaways, this intimate three-suite spa offers a double treatment room (complete with walk-in double shower – hello!), an indoor pool with dreamy countryside views, rock sauna and aroma steam room. Take your pick from ESPA body treatments and massages, Rasul mud therapy and Jessica manis and pedis. Best of all, hotel guests get complimentary access to the spa when they book a treatment. Looks like we’ll be staying overnight, then…

The Old Dairy Retreat, Upper Heyford

Retreat by name, retreat by nature, this private day spa is squirreled away in a converted barn on the grounds of owner Bex Fletcher’s rural home. The carefully-considered treatment menu and focus on holistic wellness is the pull here; face and body treatments use organic, seawood-focused brand VOYA, and there are options for pregnant or menopausal women, as well as those going through cancer treatments. Book a private meditation or yoga class in the attached Wellness Room for extra feel-good vibes.


Lifehouse Spa, Thorpe-le-Soken

Ten minutes from the seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea, this sleek Scandi-style spa and hotel is a botanist’s dream, as it’s set in 130 acres of beautifully-kept gardens (ideal for taking a turn around in your robe post-swim). The spa has a list of treatments as long as your seaweed-cocooned, salt scrubbed arm, including Clarins and ELEMIS facials and body treatments, wellness experiences like singing bowl sound baths and facial acupuncture, and mani-pedis in the OPI Prosecco & Nail Suite. As well as a large swimming pool and jetted hydrotherapy pool, there’s a thermal suite with your standard saunas, steam rooms and salt inhalation rooms, and even a Relaxation Room if all that unwinding leaves you in need of a nap. Go on then, I’ll just rest my eyes… zzzz…


Congham Hall, near King’s Lynn

This multi-award-winning Georgian hotel is our Norfolk go-to for a weekend of zen. The Secret Garden Spa (aptly named, as it’s surrounded by 30 acres of beautiful countryside) offers a little private haven of pools and treatment rooms, and you can easily spend a day floating between the gorgeous spa pool with water jets, outdoor hot tub, sauna, steam room and bio-sauna and foot baths. Treatments on offer include massages, wraps, scrubs and facials, and incorporate seasonal herbs and fresh blossoming flowers from the hotel’s own garden, as well as soothing products from organic brand Elemental Herbology.


Down Hall Hotel and Spa, near Bishop’s Stortford

Not only is this Italianate mansion on the border of Herts and Essex gooorgeous, it’s also been home to Bake Off royalty (yep, GBBO is filmed there). The luxurious Eden Spa is the, erm… icing on the cake! There are three treatment rooms offering ESPA beaty and body treatments, a hydrotherapy pool, with views over the 110 acre estate. Packages start at just £60 for hotel guests.


Y spa, Wyboston Lakes, Bedfordshire

Winner of the Muddy Herts & Beds Best Spa award 2021, you can book a blissful spa day or stay at the lovely lakeside retreat in Wyboston. There’s a gorgeous outdoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room, as well as a huge range of treatments with products from Elemis, NEOM and Murad. The on-site Waterfront Hotel (where you’ll stay if you opt for an overnighter) is also due a refurb and we’re expecting great things! Watch this space.


The Coach House Spa at Beaverbrook, Leatherhead

An opulent hideaway just outside Leatherhead, The Coach House Spa at Beaverbrook is perhaps one of Surrey’s best-kept secrets. Designed by glass architect Brian Clarke, it’s a beautiful calming space that reflects its beautiful surroundings. There are six treatment suites and a relaxation room, alongside the Thermal Spa which includes a steam room, sauna and and English bath house. There are also indoor and outdoor pools, as well and a gym and a fitness studio for anyone suffering from spa guilt (no, me either). The hotel also has a Japanese restaurant run by an ex-Nobu chef. 

The Spa at Pennyhill Park, Bagshot

This is pure old-school luxury – a place that knows how to do spa life in style. The spa is vast and spread out over 45,000 square feet – and there’s a Roman feel to them, with grand archways, marble columns and walls of mosaics.  You’ll find eight pools, thermal cabins with a range of heat, ice and steam, and 21 spacious treatment rooms. The range includes a 25-metre indoor ballroom pool with underwater music and fibre optic lighting, and an outdoor pool which is heated in winter. There’s also a hydrotherapy pool, three outdoor heated hot tubs, plus the Thermal Heaven which includes a herbal saunas, ice igloo, plunge pool and foot spas. Bliss.


The Garden Spa by L’Occitane at The Bath Priory, Bath

You could *almost* be in the south of France at the UK’s only L’Occitane spa, as all the treatments use essential oils and natural ingredients from their grand herbarium in Provence. The Spa, in one of Bath’s most beautiful hotels (country house atmos, acres of beautiful grounds yet close to the city centre), has four tranquil treatment rooms, an indoor pool, sauna, aroma steam and relaxation rooms. We’re loving the sound of the ‘Sleep & Reset Massage’ – perfect for after Christmas and New Year excesses. Read our review.

Thermae Bath Spa, Bath


There’s not much to beat floating around in the naturally warm, mineral-rich waters in the roof top pool of the New Royal Bath (even in winter) – unless it’s you and your pals having exclusive use of the intimate open-air Cross Bath. The thermal spa is spread over six floors (with the standalone Cross Bath next door), has a state-of-the-art multi-sensory wellness suite, over 50 spa treatments and packages and its own restaurant. Summer Lodge Country House Hotel & Spa, Evershot

The sumptuous country house hotel in deepest Dorset has the whole package. Gorgeous rooms and fine dining restaurant, beautiful grounds and a spa with jacuzzi, sauna and heated pool, full range of head-to-toe treatments – we can recommend the Hot Stone Massage, Elemis Superfood Pro Radiance Facial – and a gym, with personal trainer on request. Monart Spa, Poundbury

Located in the grand Royal Pavilion in Queen Mother Square, this 5 star day spa combining traditional techniques with state-of-the-art technology and luxury decor won Best Spa in the Dorset & Somerset Muddy Stilettos Awards 2021. Work your way around the sauna, salarium, caldarium, aroma steam room, polaris ice fountain, Himalayan salt grotto, infra-red pro cabin and experience showers, take a dip in the infinity pool, have one of their luxe treatments, enjoy lunch, then chill in the dark or pop yourself into a relaxation pod with your fave mag. Utopia Spa at Alexander House Hotel, East Grinstead

The spa at Alexander House is nothing short of epic, with Grecian-inspired interiors and water-based therapies they boast a whopping 25 treatment rooms including three for couples, relaxation lounges and a bespoke outdoor barrel sauna and a hot tub. You might even spot a few local celebrities in the pool so bring your snazziest swimsuit.

The Spa at South Lodge Hotel, Horsham

The Spa at South Lodge is a 44,000 sq. ft. luxury spa with a state-of-the-art gym and spin studio, indoor pool, outdoor hydrotherapy pool, wild swimming pool, a thermal suite, and copious treatment rooms for guests. No wonder they won our Muddy Award for the Best Day Spa this year!


The Greenhouse Spa, The Elms, Abberley

This decadent spa is well-known locally for its luxe-factor and coolness. Located at country house hotel The Elms, plunge into the indoor heated pool with views across the Teme Valley before immersing yourself in the indoor-outdoor hydro-pool with bubbling jets. Festooned with zen-infusing botanical decor, thermal facilities include a steam room, ice fountain and rainforest shower, or go all in and treat yourself to an Elemis face or body pamper.

Dormy House Spa, Broadway

Everything about this platinum spa destination yells pure luxury. No mere pool here, instead meet The Bathing Room, a zen-like space lined with day beds and dotted with candles. The 16m indoor infinity pool is the perfect spot for poolside lazing. Tear yourself away to the Salt Steam Room with mineral-enriched air, or the couples’ suite – one of six treatment rooms – a sanctum of private pampering. You may walk in, but you’ll float out.


C-Side Spa, Cowley Manor, Cheltenham

This multi award-winning spa is set in an iconic post-modern building carved into the grounds of luxury Cowley Manor. Featuring a Cotswold green-slate lined heated indoor pool and a spectacular heated outdoor pool, it deffo has one of the best vistas we’ve seen at a spa. Lounge on one of the comfy day beds with cup of herbal tea, then head off to one a treatment room for a locally-made Green & Spring pamper treatment.

Calcot Manor Spa, Tetbury

Hit the “off” button at this pleasure palace of a spa. Nestled in a quiet corner of luxury Calcot’s grounds, Calcot Spa is an incredibly peaceful retreat if you want somewhere to revive and refresh. Sip a cheeky glass of fizz in the heated outdoor hot tub, next to a crackling open fireplace, or head for a luxury Elemis treatment in one of the beautiful treatment rooms.


Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa, Torquay

Book the babysitter for an adults-only overnighter at Torquay’s lush luxury hub, Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa. The £2m spa is brand-spanking new, with the emphasis on indulgence over abstinence, so a glass of bubbles when you’re bubbling in the hydropool is de rigeur. A one-night stay, including three-course dinner and treatment costs £175pp based on two guests sharing a Classic Room, and locals with TQ postcode get 20% off until Jan 31 2022.

Gaia, Boringdon Hall Hotel & Spa, Plymouth

After a five-star stay? Book yourself for a Winter Warmer at Plymouth’s Gaia Spa which won Best Destination Spa in the UK and Ireland at the 2022 Condé Nast Johansens Awards. Here’s a heavenly blend of 16th century manor and uber-modern luxury, with signature products and treatments focusing on healing and restoration. A two night stopover with breakfast, full use of their award-winning spa, a 45-minute Gaia treatment each and 10% off any additional treatments starts at £250pp.


Gainsborough Health Club & Spa, near Sudbury

You guys voted it Best Day Spa in Suffolk & Cambs in the Muddy Awards 2021 and we can see why: huuuuge pool, swish new Jacuzzi, high tech gym and treatment rooms all housed in restored 15th-Century timber-framed barns. Beauty-wise Gainsborough has everything you need for polished perfection, from gel nails and waxing to tinting, trimming and make-up using Inika organic range. Launching for 2022 is a Seasonal Spa Day package, £85, including 55-minute facial, Inner Calm body massage or body brush and hot stone massage, light lunch and full use of the spa facilities.


The Glassworks at Varsity Hotel, Cambridge

If you fancy a city spa break, then The Glassworks is ideal: Elemis spa, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym all attached to one of Cambridge’s swankiest hotels. We like sitting in the spa pool overlooking the river (that’s sightseeing, right?) and the fact you can create your own spa day: Elemis facial, afternoon tea, manicure and dinner in rooftop SIX brasserie for the win.


Chewton Glen, New Milton

Bubbles, madam? Featuring Europe’s largest hydrotherapy pool, Chewton Glen is definitely up there in the UK’s best destination spa rankings. Inside, the beautiful 17-metre indoor pool was refreshed in 2020 by designer Anita Rosato. In the 12 treatment rooms, individualised Oskia facials, massages and recovery-based body treatments will please even the most discerning spa-goers.

Careys Manor, Brockenhurst

Another New Forest big hitter, the world class SenSpa at Carey’s Manor brings the best of the East to Hampshire. The all-encompassing hydrotherapy suite includes a hydro pool, herbal sauna, crystal steam room, laconicum, tepidarium and thunder experience showers. Latest offers include the rather dreamy Ultimate Sen Sleep Overnight Spa Package, available on select dates until March 2022.


Mullion Cove Hotel, Mullion

The new cliff-top eco and sea view spa takes inspiration from the local surrounds using the local granite, copper, bronze and tin and includes an outdoor swimming pool lined with chic white loungers, and a cliff-top wood-fired hot tub, as well as treatment rooms using Made for Life organic Cornish products. Hand-carved Serpentine rock (the distinctive local green-ish rock found on the beaches surrounding the hotel) and lighting by Cornish-based lighting designer, Tom Raffield, completes the outside/inside natural feel.

The Scarlet, Mawgan Porth, Nr Newquay

Sit back in the cliff top hot tub listening to the crashing, calming waves, take a plunge in the cold natural reed-filtered pool or go for a longer swim in the indoor pool filtered with low-dosage bromine, both of which also look out over the waves below. Then head inside for a choice of Ayurveda inspired treatments including the new Attuned Massage or Tula Facial.

The Headland Hotel, Newquay

Perched above Fistral in Cornwall’s surf capital, Newquay, you’ll find the imposing Victorian terracotta Headland Hotel, which is home to 2021’s Muddy-Award winning Spa, plus their newly opened Aqua Club, adding inside and outside pools to the chic and cosy spa facilities in the belly of the old building. With an extensive treatment list and six treatment rooms, including a VIP couple’s suite, the spa thermal journey also hosts a hydrotherapy spa pool complete with bubble seats, swan jet, hot tub, Cornish salt steam room, Swedish sauna and aromatherapy showers.


Rowhill Grange, Wilmington

If you like your spas high-gloss and hard marble then this one’s for you. With Roman-inspired interiors, two floors of pools and double treatment rooms, Utopia Spa at Rowhill Grange is perfect for a couple’s getaway. Sit in the steam from the hydrotherapy pool, relax in Jacuzzi or unwind in the swimming pool upstairs. You could even make a day of it by enjoying their afternoon tea – just add champagne obvs – or lunch or dinner in their 2 AA Rosette restaurant, RG’s.

Green Farm, Shadoxhurst

You’ll find this luxury accommodation, boutique spa and farm-estate in the heart of the Kent countryside, surrounded by 12,500 acres of ancient woodland and fields – but also not far from Ashford train station (just 37 minutes from St Pancras, if you’re heading out of London). Run by husband and wife team MaryAnn and Martin this rural retreat is a place of natural beauty and countryside charm.


Coworth Park, Ascot, Berks

Not the Jetson’s futuristic crash pad, but Coworth Park’s award-winning spa in Ascot – just 45 minutes outside London but a world away from the hustle of life. If you’re looking for a spa break that’ll make you feel like a new woman, we suggest the Spa and Stay package. You get a 60 minute ishga Organic Rejuvenating Facial or Wellbeing Massage, use of the spa facilities, and ‘green gym’ (aka the estate’s 240 acre parkland), an overnight stay and English breakfast for two the next day. You can even surrender your phone if you want to go off grid and use the time to totally recharge. From £875.

Fairmont Windsor Park Spa & Wellness, Windsor

The new kid on the super-spa block and it is epic! Fairmont Windsor Park’s £120m two-storey spa and wellness centre officially opens on 1 Jan 2022. It’s the first UK spa to offer a multi-person Cryotherapy Chamber, has a Japanese Ashiyu foot ritual bath, 18 treatment rooms, four wellness rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a Himalayan salt room and a thermal suite with sauna, steam room, hot tub and a heated tepidarium bench. That’s just to name a few of the facilities. The list is endless. Even the café will have its own dedicated chef serving bespoke food and drinks based on your dietary and health requirements.

Cliveden House Spa, Taplow, Berks

Cliveden Spa is loved by celebs, royalty and Muddy editors, it’s a stylish, light filled space of whites and neutrals with deco-inspired touches. The Grade II listed outdoor pool – where Christine Keeler flouted the no heavy petting rule with John Profumo – is FAB-U-LOUS. Inside, there’s another pool, jacuzzi, infrared sauna, steam room and seven treatment rooms with the most incredible water mattresses. From now until 28 Feb 2022 you can book an OTO Sleep Experience which includes a 90 minute OTO massage, private yoga lesson or sound healing session, full use of the spa, overnight stay and an OTO sleep gift to take home. What does this five star pampering cost? Well, from £823. But what price can you put on your wellbeing?

Monkey Island Estate Floating Spa, Bray, Berks


It may sound like something out of a Disney theme park but it’s actually a très chichi boutique hotel on an historic private island on the Thames. The design team behind The Dorchester in London and The Carlyle in New York have created 41 rooms and suites, all with amazing river views, of course, plus a floating spa on a converted Dutch barge offering treatments inspired by its location. Because, well, why not? Book a Floating Spa package and you’ll enjoy an overnight stay, 60-minute spa treatment and breakfast the next day. From £290.


Whittlebury Park, nr Towcester

This sprawling golf and spa hotel in the Northants/Bucks border is deceptively intimate thanks to the relaxed and unstuffy vibe. You can while away days padding about in a fluffy robe and slippers here enjoying the heat and ice experience (definitely one for the brave!), 19m swimming pool, steam rooms and jacuzzis plus a huge choice of pampering treatments to help you relax and unwind. We can vouch for the Elemis Superfood facial and next on our wish list is the ESPA hot stone treatment. Dinner at Murray’s, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant is an absolute must. There’s lots of choice in terms of spa packages and prices start at £139 for the Time Out Spa Stay.

The Stableyard Spa at Rushton Hall, Kettering

Head to the stately pile that is Rushton Hall for the ultimate luxury retreat. The Stableyard Spa here is the ideal place to go for a spot of much-needed (always) pampering and escapism. There’s a real sense of decadent indulgence here and you can have the full works, from massage a deeply indulgent REN Moroccan Rose Ritual (exfoliation, massage and facial) to the finishing touches including waxing and tinting. Rooms and suites are sumptuously kitted out in a classic British style, making you feel a bit like the heroine in a costume drama. our idea of heaven. Spa packages start from £85 for the Revitalise You package plus room rates from £220 a night. 


Elan Spa at Mallory Court, Leamington Spa

This gorgeous spa hidden in rural Leamington scooped Muddy Warwickshire’s award for Best Spa – and with good reason. They have an outdoor vitality pool and sauna, thermal suite, hydrotherapy pool, salt sauna and steam room. Oh, and they use nothing but gorgeous-smelling Espa products in their treatments. We love this Winter Pamper Break which includes accommodation, 55-minute treatment, mindfulness walk and full English brekkie. 

Santai Spa, Birmingham

At the very top of Resorts World’s Genting Hotel sits this hidden gem with stunning views over the lake. There’s a dry flotation device (25 mins is the same as 8 hours sleep – where can I buy one?), gym, pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and relaxation room. To make the most of all the facilities we recommend the Ultimate Spa Day which includes dry flotation and afternoon tea.


Stapleford Park, Melton Mowbray

Set within a sprawling 500-acre estate, Stapleford’s spa retreat is ready and waiting to pamper you into oblivion. The former Baroque stable block has been modelled on those at Buckingham Palace and has been converted into a modern day spa complete with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi. For treatments, you can easily spend an hour or two here and enjoy everything from a mud wrap to a Thermal Stone massage as well as blissful beauty treatments. Spa day packages start from £105.

Champneys SpringAshby de la Zouch

Get your Zen on at Champneys Springs. The tranquil country style spa hotel is surrounded by lush water walkways and 31 acres of beautiful open parkland. There’s tonnes of pampering treatments on offer, a hydropool, an invigorating sauna, steam room, aqua aerobics as well as holistic and beauty treatments and personal training workouts and more at this health and wellbeing resort. A visit to Champneys Springs will revive even the most weary of guests so it’s the perfect place to get your new year off to a great start. Spa day packages from £94.
