6 surprising perks for teens and adults aboard Disney Cruise Line

Love the idea of a family cruise but worry that Disney Cruise Line only cater to little ones? From teen spa treatments to on-board adult cooking classes, prepare to be mightily surprised.

THE STATEROOMS ARE SUPER ROOMY

If your dream holiday starts with a sunrise at sea from a private ocean-view veranda, prepare to feel smug in your Disney Cruise Line Deluxe Stateroom for up to 5 guests. With 300 thread-count cotton bed linen and floor-to-ceiling windows, they’re clearly called ‘staterooms’ for a reason and bigger than some flats I’ve rented in London over the years!

TEENS CAN BE PAMPERED TOO

Love a treatment or two? Adults can unwind at the tranquil Senses Spa & Salon, but a really lovely touch for teens on most Disney Cruise Line ships is the Chill Spa, designed exclusively for 13-17 year olds. They’ll find the full gamut of beauty and relaxation treatments on offer, including massage, pedi/manis, oxygen facials to help with troublesome teenage skin, scrubs, hair styling and body wraps. There are even dual massages for teens to take with their parents. Personally I’m not willing to share my spa time with anyone, let alone my children – but then you’re probably nicer than me.

ADULT-EXCLUSIVE AREAS

We all love our kids, but even the most patient, engaged, brilliant parents need a break. Obviously there’s tonnes to experience as a family aboard Disney Cruise Line – that’s the given, right? – but for those who also want to carve out welll-deserved ‘me-time’ as well as ‘we-time’, there are well-defined adult-exclusive spaces. Where to start? Well, there’s the gorgeous Quiet Cove Pool, with outside bar and a luxe vibe; adult-only dining areas like Enchanté and Palo Steakhouse aboard the brand new Disney Wish and Remy on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy; plus activities like cookery courses and fitness centres with personal training, boot camps, body sculpt classes, plus pilates and yoga sessions. The whole adult offering is like, totally namaste.

GO FOR A RUN

Seriously! While the smaller children are transfixed by the incredible kids’ clubs and immersive entertainment, head to the Running Track. It’s over a third of a mile lap where you can run the length of the ship and enjoy views of the open sea on both port and starboard decks.

SNEAK OFF TO THE BIG SCREEN

I always think it’s the ultimate indulgence to watch a movie solo, and here’s an open goal for film fans. Banish all thoughts of local movie theatres with their popcorn-strewn carpets, the Art Deco-inspired Buena Vista Theatre here is incredible, with the latest advancements in projection and sound plus loads of leg room. They show first-run films of the latest releases (yippee!) as well as favourite Disney classics.

A TEENS CLUB THEY’LL ACTUALLY WANT TO BE PART OF

It’s so easy to get teen spaces wrong as this age group is notoriously hard to keep up with and please, but of course Disney totally ‘gets’ kids of all ages, and they’ve created genuinely brilliant clubs and hang-out spaces for Tweens (Edge, 11-14) and Teens (Vibe, 14-17). On the Disney Dream, the Vibe headquarters is like a Manhattan loft apartment, with slouchy sofas and a huge state-of-the-art video wall. Both the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy feature outdoor decks specifically for teens too. With games galore and a whole lot of hanging out with new friends. You’ll barely see your teens and you know what that means – they’re happy.

FAMILY, SORTED
