Cyrano de Bergerac is witty, brilliant and fearless in battle, but bloody useless when it comes to love. Roxane (Susannah Fielding), bold and beautiful, seems forever out of reach… until she falls for handsome but tongue-tied Christian. His only hope? Cyrano’s words. Olivier Award-winner Adrian Lester (Hustle, Othello) takes the title role in this fresh adaptation by Simon Evans and Debris Stevenson. Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider, The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) makes her stage debut in this captivating play about love, loss and desire. Oscar-nominated Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Harry Potter, The Banshees of Inisherin) makes his West End debut in Irish playwright Conor McPherson’s haunting drama based around four men who regularly gather in an isolated pub in rural Ireland and whose lives are disrupted by beautiful, mysterious Valerie. The last time Gleeson trod the boards was over a decade ago and you&#8217;ll be gripped by the whole shebang &#8211; Autumn&#8217;s hot ticket.

The It’s a Sin star steps into the role of Algernon Moncrieff in the National Theatre’s revival of Oscar Wilde’s best comedy and Muddy for one can&#8217;t wait. Nor will he be the only star on stage, with comedian Hugh Dennis playing Reverend Canon Chasuble and Stephen Fry starring as Lady Bracknell. We’re not ashamed to admit it – Susan Sarandon was our very first girl crush. Forget Brad Pitt’s cowboy; it was Sarandon’s dusty, sassy, impossibly glamorous waitress that stole our hearts in Thelma and Louise. And we love her just as much today. The Hollywood icon is making her UK theatre debut in Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy Letts’ Mary Page Marlowe, joined by Oscar-nominee Andrea Riseborough. What a line up! The play sees five actors portray Mary at different ages in a fragmented, intimate portrait of a life — inviting the audience to piece it together, just as we all do with our own.

Bath scored a serious coup when Ralph Fiennes signed up for a season at the Theatre Royal – and he’s bowing out with a bang. Small Hotel is a brand-new drama from award-winning playwright Rebecca Lenkiewicz, with Fiennes in the lead as Larry, a fading TV celebrity staring down the wreckage of his glittering career. Cue the ghosts of his past: a troubled twin, a domineering mother, played by Francesca Annis, now in her 80s (and yes, once Fiennes’ real-life flame). Expect razor-sharp writing, powerhouse performances and plenty of dramatic sparks.

Bring your tissues to this one. It&#8217;s a heart-breaking story about a teenager who vanishes and a mother who refuses to give up hope.



The Unbelievers comes from the brilliant Nick Payne (Constellations, We Live in Time) and promises a raw, moving exploration of motherhood, memory and the lengths we’ll go to for the people we love.



Add to that the powerful, engaging and utterly believable skills of Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, The Split) and you can expect an emotional ride from one of the UK’s boldest theatres.

Ooh, this looks like a good one. Shakespeare’s most searing tragedy gets a bold new reboot this autumn – and the cast is seriously starry. David Harewood (Homeland), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs the Post Office), Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession), Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point) and Luke Treadaway (A Streetcat Named Bob) lead the charge in this explosive tale of love, jealousy and rage.



Directed by Tony Award-winner Tom Morris (War Horse) with an original score by PJ Harvey (YES. PJ Harvey!) this Othello promises to be utterly unmissable.

The Scottish Play storms back to Stratford – this time with a serious dose of star power. Sam Heughan (Outlander, Love Again) makes his RSC debut as the doomed Thane, alongside Lia Williams (The Crown, The Missing, Kiri) as Lady M.



Directed by rising talent Daniel Raggett (whose Edward II wowed the Swan Theatre earlier this year), this intimate new take on Shakespeare’s tale of power, ambition and bloody downfall, promises to be Shakespeare at its most bloody brilliant.
