The Night Manager season 2: everything we know so far!

After eight years it’s back! Well not quite yet, but seasons 2 and 3 have been given the green light, so we can legit get excited and post pictures of Tom Hiddleston and give you all the intel we know so far.

Tom Hiddleston The Night Manager

Waaaay back in 2016 The Night Manager hit our screens and the nation was instantly hooked. Adapted from a John Le Carré novel of the same name, the story of ex-soldier Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) who becomes the night manager of a hotel in Cairo and becomes embroiled in danger, was gripping.

It ticked all our essential top TV show boxes: glam, sunny, hot leading man, espionage, love interest (Elizabeth Debicki, you’ll recognise her as Lady Diana in The Crown), and it won a string of awards, including a BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe. We never gave up hope that there would eventually be another series, and – lo! – it’s been greenlighted. Here’s what we know so far about the follow up.

Who’s starring?

The good news is Tom Hiddleston definitely on board, possibly with added shower. Phew. The bad news is that Hugh Laurie, who played the terrifying/charming psychopathic arms dealer Dicky Roper, hasn’t confirmed though a little bird tells us he is going to be behind the scenes this time as an executive producer. Also it very much looked like he was about to die at the close of Season 1, so a Patrick Ewing-style ‘rise-from-the-dead’ plotline might not be the smartest! Fingers crossed Debicki’s back and that Olivia Coleman has signed on the dotted line to reprise her role as a Brit intelligence agent.

What about the plot?

Okay John Le Carré didn’t actually write a second book, but what we do know is that TNM2 is going to be set eight years after the events of the first series. Rumour has it that filming’s scheduled to take place in London and South America and that David Farr, who adapted the original novel, is writing the follow ups with the series directed by I Hate Suzie’s Georgi Banks-Davies. So basically it’s in safe hands.

When will it be released?

There isn’t an official release date yet, however the good news is that filming is scheduled this year, so you can expect to be glued to the TV early in 2025.

Where can I watch it?

The BBC have partnered with Amazon for Seasons 2 and 3, so you’ll be able to catch it on BBC One and BBC iplayer, plus Amazon Prime. Not watched the first season yet (or just fancy refreshing your memory)? It’s streaming on iplayer now. Grab a cushion to hide behind, you’ll need it!
