Muddy Stilettos

Actors and writers have been on strike, Barbieheimer sparked a stampede back into cinemas, and some films have tested our bladders to the limit – Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese you have a lot to answer for. No film should run for more than 3hrs, but Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon were a test of no toilet breaks endurance. 



The 96th Academy Awards take place this weekend (Sun 10 Mar), but who will walk away with those highly-prized gold stautues? Well, Oppenheimer is biggie with 13 noms, Poor Things comes in hot with 11 noms, Killer of Flower Moon has 10 noms and we&#8217;re loving the Kenergy for Barbie with 8 nominations, but there&#8217;s a frisson of excitement building for The Zone of Interest too (5 nominations) – a British-Polish-American production directed by Jonathan Glazer. Slip into your posh frock and walk Muddy&#8217;s red carpet to victory.

And the Muddy winner is… Oppenheimer. It may well test your bladder at 3.5hrs long and white blokes blowing stuff up and then feeling bad about it shouldn&#8217;t be Oscar-worthy on paper, but all the signs say it&#8217;ll win big.

And the Muddy winner is… Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer. The man practically lived on a handful of nuts playing the titular physicist wrestling personal ambition with an internal moral dilemma.

And the Muddy winner is… Emma Stone for Poor Things. The film could deliver her second Oscar not just for services to eyebrows, but her performance in this hyper sexual, graphic gothic rom com was extraordinary. Lily Gladstone comes a close second for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.

And the Muddy winner is… So hard to call! Robert Downey Jnr, Mark Ruffalo and Ryan Gosling make the Muddy cut. While we would love to see Ryan Gosling roller skate onto the stage in a pink tux, we&#8217;re putting our money on for role in Poor Things as narcissistic ladies’ man Duncan Wedderburn.

And the Muddy winner is… EEK! The competition is fierce. America Ferrera, Jodie Foster or Emily Blunt could have their arms round Oscar. Out heart says America should win for her Barbie monologue alone. But our head says Jodie Foster will scoop the prize for her performance as long-distance swimming coach Bonnie in Nyad.
