Sex, scandal, stilettos and Aidan Turner’s six pack! Your first look at Rivals
Proof there is a god! The Poldark star’s getting raunchy in star-studded new 80s series Rivals – and we could not be more excited.
Purely in the name of research, Muddy’s been watching, very, very closely the star-studded trailer for the Disney+ series Rivals (hitting the small screen this autumn) and it seems there’ll be as much sex and sculduggery as you’d hope from the TV adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s 1988 bonkbuster. Take a look below.
The upcoming adaption of Jilly Cooper’s sexy novel sees Aidan Turner drop his scythe to take up the role of intellectual TV presenter Declan O’Hara. While the jury’s out on his moustache, the good news is he gets his kit off. He gets a five star review from the entire Muddy team.

Who else is in the cast?

Set in the ruthless world of Eighties independent television, the eight-part drama will also star Emily Atack as the ambitious wife of the deputy prime minister (Rufus Jones) and Danny Dyer, who’s playing Freddie Jones, an electronics millionaire (who also sports a slightly comic moustache).

Doctor Who star David Tennant has landed the role of Lord Tony Baddingham, controller of Corinium Television and adversary of charismatic Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell (His Dark Materials, The Miniaturist). Who also appears to have a tendency to take his shirt off.

So what’s the plot?

A power struggle between two powerful men – rakish ex-Olympic rider and Tory MP Rupert Campbell-Black and ambitious TV station controller Lord Tony Baddingham, who are landed neighbours in fictional Rutshire (even the county sounds a bit raunchy, no?).
A long-simmering power struggle between them threatens to boil over when the two men fight over the future of Corinium Television, to which Declan (Aidan Turner) has just been recruited.
Standby for eight glamorous hours of living with the fast set. Think helicopters, private planes, country piles, luxe London apartments and lots of bed-hopping.
When can I see it?
You may have to watch the trailer on repeat for a few months. Rivals isn’t going to hit UK screens until ‘later in the year’. We’ll keep you updated but until then, here’s a pic of Aidan to keep you going.
