Diamonds, you say? At a price that won’t make you weep into your annual mortgage statement? That’s right, folks. Such a thing exists and if you can unwed yourself from the idea that jewellery and designer handbags need to be purchased from the most expensive looking shop in town, you can net yourself a bargain. Or six.
Fellows is one of the UK’s most established auction houses (it’s been going since 1876), focusing on unique jewellery, luxury watches and designer pieces, and because we like you lot, we’ve arranged for one lucky Muddy reader to win a £500 voucher to put against any of their auction lots in 2021.
And don’t be alarmed if you’ve never bought at auction before. Fellows’ regular events are a cinch to engage with – even if you’re a complete amateur and the closest you’ve got to bidding is watching Bargain Hunt. You simply scroll through the catalogue, find the pieces you’re interested in and enter a price you’d be happy to pay. Alternatively, for their timed auctions, as it gets close to the end, you can watch the bids go up in real time (like eBay) and then you can throw in a winning bid at the very last minute, should you like that sort of adrenaline rush.
Of course, you don’t get to actually touch the pieces because, you know, Covid and all that, but you do get all the fun of the auction without the fear of a virus infection. Plus – and this is no minor consideration in these times of reducing waste and reusing what’s already been produced – you get to own gorgeous, one-off jewellery or handbags without adding to your carbon footprint. It’s a win-win situation. But be warned: once you get the taste for online auctions, lord, it’s a hard habit to break.
Here is just a tiny selection of what’s coming up in their next few auctions to whet your appetite. Like we said, hard habit to break.
