PizzaExpress, King’s Road, Chelsea

Not your average pizza joint! Set in a former private members club where the likes of Germaine Greer and Humphrey Bogart used to hang out, this three-floor restaurant in the heart of Chelsea is now renowned for its live music events as well as its stupendously good pizza.

Pizza with a side of live music is always on the menu at PizzaExpress’ flagship restaurant. Found in the heart of Chelsea – a short walk from both Sloane Square and South Kensington tubes – the Grade II listed building, known locally as The Pheasantry, has been a go-to on the London social scene since 1997 and it’s still the place to be for a romantic evening, catch-up with the girls, big celebration, or even a pizza making party (yup, every weekend).

Formerly a private members club which counted Lou Reed, Germain Greer, Richard Burton and Humphrey Bogart among its A-list tribe, the three-floor restaurant still exudes that cosy, classy members club vibe (wood-panelled walls, marble tables and brown leather banquettes), a unique charm which adds to the dining experience. That and the super roster of cabaret, jazz and stage acts that perform in the spacious basement area seven nights a week.

There’s even a ground floor heated garden area for al fresco dining where if you close your eyes you might as well be sipping on an Aperol Spritz in Naples. Saluti to that.
