Lefay Resort & Spa, Lake Garda, Italy

Perched high above Lake Garda, Lefay is an eco-chic hideaway where the views stretch for miles, the pace is dialled to slow, and the only decisions you need to make are pool, sauna or another Aperol.

This is spa life done the Italian way – all big skies, sun-dappled terraces and good wine (yes, even if you’re detoxing). Set across 27 acres in the hills above the elegant town of Gargnano, Lefay Resort & Spa is all soft edges, whisper-quiet corridors and that unmistakable hum of hush-money luxury. Recently zhuzhed, the resort now includes glossy new adults-only zones, a rooftop bar, and three jaw-dropping Sky Suites. But even the entry-level rooms are no afterthought – think floor-to-ceiling views, private balconies, enormous marble bathrooms and gentle, neutral tones that immediately bring your cortisol levels down.

The vibe is laidback and barefoot – literally. Guests pad about in robes between breakfast and the pools, while staff float in and out with herbal teas and spritzes depending on your mood. There’s a huge emphasis on slowing down – whether you’re dozing by the infinity pool, meandering through the olive groves, or sinking into a beanbag in the glass-walled adults-only spa lounge, the whole place is designed to help you switch off and stay off. Yes, there are wellness programmes if you want them (detox, de-stress, the full rewire), but nothing is mandatory. If your idea of healing involves carbs and a negroni, no one’s judging.

Food here is a highlight. Breakfasts are part buffet, part made-to-order, and fully delicious – homemade pastries, ripe fruit, and Italian takes on wellness classics. You can opt for a light, clean-living set menu at Lemonia or go à la carte and order whatever your soul desires (spoiler: you’ll cave after day one). A must-visit is Gramen, the hotel’s fine-dining, plant-led restaurant, serving beautifully plated, dairy-free Mediterranean dishes in a room that glows with candlelight and lake views.

Outside the hotel, Lake Garda offers its usual jaw-dropping charms. You can book onto a wine-tasting boat tour, join one of the hotel’s Nordic walking or cycling excursions, or just hop in a cab to explore the lemon groves and villas of the shoreline towns. But honestly? No one would blame you for staying put, soaking up the silence and working your way through the mocktail list. Lefay doesn’t just help you feel good – it reminds you what feeling good actually means.
