Antarès Mèribel, France

World-class skiing, slope-to-door access and interiors so good you’ll forget to leave the chalet – Antarès Méribel is a luxe mountain stay that’s made for groups, ski widows and snow-lovers alike.

Let’s be honest – skiing holidays can be chaos. Queues for ski hire, lugging your kit through slushy side streets, someone crying into their tartiflette by day three. Not here. Antarès Méribel is a whole different beast – a calm, quietly glamorous residence of 63 design-led apartments tucked high in the Belvédère district with direct access to the Trois Vallées (aka the largest ski area in the world). Ski-in, ski-out? Absolutely. And the on-site boot room and private ski hire shop mean you can slide from your chalet to the slopes without so much as a faff.

Inside, it’s all tastefully alpine-meets-mid-century – big balconies, timbered ceilings, sheepskin throws and fire-lit lounges designed for après with friends. We stayed in a four-bedroom apartment and honestly? You could lose your entire group in there (ideal if someone’s snoring). It’s self-catering, technically, but let’s be honest – this is a “dial the chef” kind of place. Sure, the price tag’s not for the faint of heart – from around £16,789 per week – but split between four couples or a well-chosen group, it starts to feel like a doable treat.

And if you’re more into spa robes than ski runs? Welcome to the ski widow’s dream. The Antarès Wellness spa is there when you’ve had enough of the slopes (or never intended to touch them in the first place). There’s a stunning 25m pool with jaw-dropping views, plus all the cryo, hammam and LED facials you could dream of. The spa is open to non-residents too, so even if you’re staying elsewhere, it’s worth a detour.

Méribel itself has also had a bit of a glow-up in recent years. Michelin-starred Le Coucou is just down the road, but we loved the vibe at Lilie (think alpine Soho House), and Maya Altitude is a must for long, rosé-fuelled lunches in the sun. Whether you’re carving powder, clinking glasses or catching up on books by the fire, Antarès gives you space, style and snow in spades. Ski holidays? Consider them officially upgraded.
