Ditch shoddy spag bol for restaurant-grade recipes and skills from Chef and patron of the two Michelin star Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons, Raymond Blanc’s cookery school. Hosting a variety of courses ranging from quick half or full-day to five-night residential packages, so you’re learning from the best of the best. We love that classes are taught in small groups allowing more one-to-one feedback – and the range of cuisines on offer from summer BBQ to Christmas menus to kitchen secrets. Sarah Aspinall runs Breaking Ballet – a ballet-based workout programme for all levels – in Harpenden, Herts (and online). Move into Wellness Retreat, South West France

Claire Darlow runs PilatesWorks in Potton, Bedfordshire, including day retreats locally and online classes. But if you want to book something in to look forward to, try her French Move into Wellness Retreat in September 2024. Taking place in the picturesque Pyrenees, you’ll stay in a traditional French farmhouse with a heated outdoor pool and indoor and outdoor studios for your daily classes (there’ll be two to three per day including yoga, Pilates and restorative). Cornwall Wild Swimming Break, St Michaels Resort, Falmouth or Watergate Bay, North Cornwall

Invigorate the senses, improve technique and become immersed in the benefits of sea swimming to mind, body and soul. While a lot of retreats are suitable for beginners, the great thing about these two similar but contrasting options on each of Cornwall’s coasts are that they are for the next level – while no prior open water swimming is necessary, it is a real advantage. You should be able to swim 400m without stopping. This can be a mix of strokes though some should be front crawl.
At St Michaels, expert swim coach Salim will guide you through the three day swim retreat which includes both pool and sea swims, as well as spa sessions and yoga, meals and luxury resort accommodation. Riding the healthy eating wave and sacking off UPFs for the foreseeable (that’s Ultra Processed Foods, if you’ve been hiding under a rock)? Perhaps you’re in knead (groans) of Northants-based sourdough guru Vanessa Kimbell’s renowned sourdough baking course, which teaches home bakers, professionals, nutritionists and healthcare professionals alike all about the science and nutritional aspects of sourdough, how to make it, and why it’s so good for your gut microbiome and overall health and wellbeing as well as pleasing to the taste buds. Gin Academy, Silverstone Distillery, Northamptonshire

Nothing beats a G&T with a squeeze of lemon. Nothing, that is, except a G&T with gin you’ve actually made with your own fair hands. The brand new Silverstone Distillery HQ in Towcester is perfect place to spend a few hours learning how to distill a unique gin to suit your tastes, using a vast range of spices and botanicals (think coriander seeds, angelica root, cassia bark, liquorice root, cardamom, nutmeg, lemon and orange peel – the list is pretty much endless). After you’ve chosen your botanicals, you’ll learn to distill your gin using a beautiful copper mini-still. You’ll even get a scrumptious lunch and a drink or two thrown in for good measure. The day starts with a holistic run led by two experts taking you around the coastal landscape of the area. After all of that hard work, you’ll have a snack before a gentle yoga session helping your body to recover. Then it’s time for a two-course lunch all made with fresh and seasonal produce. Conscious parenting basics course, Clinic 51, Petworth, West Sussex

The excellent female-focused wellness centre Clinic 51, that offers a holistic approach to women’s health and wellbeing, is hosting parents nationally for this four-week online course. Conducted via zoom with conscious parenting therapist, Caroline Hanson (who has four kids aged 10-20 – who all have Special Educational Needs). Over 90 minute sessions, you and/or your partner will be in a small group where you’ll explore the fundamentals of nurturing a collaborative connection with your child and creating healthy boundaries and trust. It’s not going to be a preachy parenting lecture, no no no, Caroline will share how to ensure you don’t underestimate the significance of who you are and your love as well as establish what works with your unique parenting style.
Wootton Park Wellness, Wootton Wawen, Warwickshire

Feeling sleepy? Join the January club! But if disrupted sleep and insomnia are part of your nightly pattern then Muddy has found the dream retreat for you.
