6 spring / summer trends we actually want to wear

If we’re adding to basket this season, we want our clothes to last longer than our tan, so here are six looks that have legs. It’s a no to short shorts for us (the teens can keep that one), but a yes to the rest.

Undercover elegance

The Nineties fashion retrospective is going absolutely nowhere and cargo pockets are popping up faster than you can say ‘Pure Shores’. Keep your look luxe with a muted colour palette, add texture texture, gold details and keep the sartorial storage to a minimum.

Country & western

Yeehah! Pretty prairie meets Wild West this summer. Give your boho wardrobe a cowboy twist with suede, crochet and raffia all playing a big part. Cowboy boots, floaty dresses and denim essential; Stetsons and Bèyonce’s Cowboy Carter we’ll leave to your discretion..

Red alert

It’s bye bye Barbie pink and hello scarlet fever. Enter your red era and boldly wear this ‘look at me’ shade top-to-toe or keep it understated with a pop of brightness with a bag or shoes. There’s a shade to suit all skin tones and it pairs perfectly with caramel browns, soft creams and a glass of rioja. Handy, that.

Pale & interesting

There’s only one dress you need this summer – and it’s not floral. The Little White Dress is simple, elegant and looks dreamy against sun-kissed skin. Yes, it comes with a spillage warning – creams and milky whites seem to bring out the clumsy in us – but it’s a risk we’re prepared to take.

Track & field

Our love affair with trackie bottoms should have ended at the same time as lockdown, but we’re clinging to the comfort of an elasticated waist like a limpet. Fortunately, like all good fashion moments sporty is back with retro, hip-hop vibes and an explosion of colour.

Tailor swift

For speedy style that delivers maximum polish add a bit of tailoring to your OOTD and you’re giving elevated, ladylike style in a flash. From blazers and waistcoats to chic co-ords and dresses, it takes just one piece to make your statement.
