When you’re living in the Queen’s ‘hood, homes don’t come cheap but they are grand. This three-bedroom ground-floor apartment in the converted convent of St John The Baptist is an absolute beaut, combining open-plan living with stonking Gothic period features. At a stretch, you could also claim you slept under the same roof as 007. Daniel Craig rented this gaff while filming the Quantum of Solace

Cotswold gold stone cottage with slate roof and pretty cottage garden

The village of Chadlington where the lanes are paved with gold… OK, not quite but we’re a stone’s throw from Chipping Norton and this place is heaving with celebs (Jeremy Clarkson, David Cameron, Alex James, Tom Hollander, Sir Ben Kingsley). Rose Cottage is believed to originate from the mid-18th century and boasts a three bedrooms, three reception rooms, an inglenook fireplace, and exposed beams.

Dorset

Upwey Manor Dorset grey brick 9 bedroom house near weymouth

Not a little house of horror but the imposing grandeur of Upwey Manor – a 9-bedroom, Grade II-listed Jacobean property near Weymouth. If you fancy playing lady of the manor then the sweeping drive, stone mullion windows, wood panelling, 30ft sitting room and stunning gardens with maze, should tickle your fancy.

Suffolk

CREAM RENDERED 7 bedoom suffolk house with large garden

The best of both worlds, this 7 bedroom farmhouse is surrounded by countryside and Southwold on the Suffolk coast is 20 mins away. It’s a bit of a project as the house is split into two holiday lets. But has bags of potential – a seemingly endless garden, long private drive, woodland and pond.

Rutland

New build six bedroom house 9 acres of land and equestrian facilities rutland

New builds are great for low maintenance living, but the gardens are usually teeny weeny. Not in this case. Crack the whip and head oop north to the hamlet of Ashwell in Rutland, because this modern 6-bedder comes with 10 acres of paddocks, all-weather manege and stable block. Rural but not isolated, the market town of Oakham is three miles away and you can commute into London in 45 mins.

Surrey

white rendered eco house godalming surrey £800k

Godalming is a catnip commuter town – a town bursting at the seams with cafes, bars and indie shops, surrounded by great schools and it’s a one hour train chug into London. If you fancy something a bit different, how about an eco party house. OK, so it’s great for families too, but the open plan living, bi-folding walls and retracting ceilings make the most of the space whatever the weather.

Buckinghamshire

If the dream is a riverfront home with a place to park your boat, then this townhouse in Marlow, a smidge under £800k, might catch your eye. The garden is to die for and if the three beds and four receotion rooms don’t give enough spacec, there’s potential to extend.

Sussex

Versatility is a buzzword here with two sitting rooms, a drawing room, sun room, office and media room that can be used as a fourth bedroom. Townhouses often scrimp on outside space, but here you’re getting a decent garden with roses, lavender and fruit trees, as well as an outbuilding.

Worcestershire

You know what they say about big barns? Loads of space for an extra converted property, duh! The Old Granary is a four bed period family home in Inkberrow (the village that inspired BBC4’s The Archers), with an adjoining listed barn that already has planning permission to be turned into an adjoining two story dwelling. Lovely rural location to too boot (with all the village perks – post office, pubs, doctors, shop, sports club), plus the house backs onto lush woodland.

Hampshire

For a two bed flat, this baby isn’t cheap but OMG it has the wow factor. Occupying the penthouse suite of Grade II St Thomas Church, the space is open plan with heavenly high vaulted ceilings and dual aspect rooftop views across Winchester. All the mod cons come with the space including underfloor heating on both levels, integrated sound system and remote controlled lighting. Nice!

Hertfordshire
