8 coastal properties on the market now

With the prospect of a winter spent in lockdown looming, we're dreaming of summers to come spent by the sea. Care to indulge in a little fantasy property shopping?

Camber, Kent – £750,000

Beach House Camber Kent

You can’t get much beachier than this, baby – this incredible four-bedroom property opens pretty much directly onto the dunes of Camber Sands. The house itself is 1,500 square feet of whitewashed floorboards, a farmhouse kitchen and large windows to let in all that coastal light, and it’s just 10 minutes’ drive from the popular town of Rye. Forget summer house, we’d live here all year long.

Kingswear, Devon – £550,000

Kingswear Devon apartment

It’s not often you get period features, open-plan living and water views all wrapped up in one property, but that’s exactly what’s on offer with this two-bedroom apartment in the picturesque Devon village of Kingswear. Once part of the former Royal Dart Hotel, this renovated apartment has amazing views of the River Dart and a large kitchen diner with vaulted ceiling, with village amenities right on the doorstep.

Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk – £500,000

Wells Next the Sea, Norfolk cottage

The clue is in the name when it comes to Fisherman’s Cottage in Wells-next-the-Sea (which, FYI, we love so much we named it one of our Best Places to Live in Norfolk). This quaint Grade II-Listed cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms over three floors, not to mention a courtyard garden, plenty of period features and views over the quay. Phew!

Brighton, East Sussex – £450,000

Brighton Marina

Brighton’s seafront is home to some truly gorgeous apartments, and this two-bedder in Grade II-Listed Percival Mansions is no exception. Not only are the interiors sleek and Scandi-inspired (LOVE that glass kitchen divider), but it has excellent views of Brighton Marina and Pier, and all the bars, restaurants and boutiques a girl could want within spitting distance.

Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire – £925,000

Lee on Solent Hampshire property bedroom

You can’t get better views of the Solent and Isle of Wight than from this contemporary seafront home – there are more floor-to-ceiling windows than you can shake a piece of driftwood at! As well as three bedrooms (including a giant master suite), there’s also a self-contained studio in the garden for visitors, working from home, or even an Airbnb investment.

Dartmouth, Devon – £525,000

Peek out of the porthole windows of The Old Bakery and you’ll be able to see the River Dart running by, or the gorgeous Coronation Park. Not that you’ll want to spend your time staring outside when the interiors are this gorgeous – this four-bed Grade II-Listed townhouse in sought-after Clarence Street is a well-appointed family bolthole if ever we saw one. There’s even a courtyard garden for soaking up the sunshine, and outhouses for storing boating bits and bobs if you’re so inclined.

Port Isaac, Cornwall – £585,000

Port Isaac, Cornwall - £585,000

This charming three-bedroom cottage is perched on Church Hill in the older part of Port Isaac village, which means the views down towards the harbour are like something straight from a Daphne Du Maurier novel. You won’t have to crane your neck out of a window, either – the house has a private garden with patio seating that overlooks the entire village, so you can drink those views in all day and night.

Wareham, Dorset – £1,750,000

Wareham, Dorset property

Ooh, what we’d do if we could drum up the funds for this renovation project. This rare Grade II-Listed Lutyens house (thought to be the only one in Dorset) has some amazing cliff-top views – look east and you’ll see the Isle of Purbeck coast, and west to spot the Isle of Portland. You can even get directly onto the South West Coastal Path from the garden. Best of all though, it’s said that Sir Laurence Olivier and and Jill Esmond spent the first night of their honeymoon here. Coastal views and Hollywood connections – can’t get better than that!
