<p>Spring is a time to celebrate colour, so bring some of this into your home by making fabulous arrangements. Stars of the month are flowering bulbs – think daffodils, tulips and hyacinths. Next, add spring foliage and use spring blossom as a filler. Using varieties of flowers with different colour will increase the visual effect, adding extra interest to your arrangement. No blooms in your garden? Just look out for these seasonal flowers in local florists and shops, bunches of daffs and tulips can now be bought for a few quid.</p>

<p>Now is the time to plant Dahlia tubers in pots (called potting up) to give them a head start. Keep them somewhere sheltered and then plant them out into the ground, or bigger pots around May. These are readily available from most garden centres and online. I recommend selecting a good colour palette before you head out to buy them and mixing up flower types – doubles, singles and pompoms (pictured) give you a varied summer display.</p>

<p>March is the best time to start sowing seeds as the increased light levels and extra warmth create the ideal conditions for germinating seeds. Sow Larkspur, Cleome, and Delphiniums at the start of the month as they like a cooler temperature, moving on to Lupins and other perennial seeds later in the month. Some great annuals to sow this month include Ammi Majus, Calendula and Cosmos.</p>

<p>As the weather warms up and days get longer during March, it’s time to begin mowing the lawn! Start on a dry day for the best outcome. Raise the mowing length to its highest setting and gradually bring the cutting length down over the next couple of mows, this helps to condition the grass. Now is the time to also sow grass on bare patches to help your lawn recover from the winter.</p>

<p>As the spring brings milder weather, you’ll notice that this also brings with it the faster growth of weeds. &nbsp;While you can easily hoe off annual weeds in your borders, you will need to fork out perennial weeds such as nettles or dock, making sure that you get all of the roots out so they don’t come back.</p>
