Interiors inspo: bold spring refresh

Enough with cosy interiors and soft greys - here’s our edit of the fabrics, paints and tiles to lift your spirits and inject some spring into your step, hallway, walls, sofas...

Lick was the cheeky new entrant to the paint market last year – it’s online only, has an eye on sustainability and responds nimbly to colour trends. In recent weeks Lick launched a fabulous wallpaper collection in collaboration with artist Natasha Coverdale. My pick is Electric Poppies 02, with its luscious pink ferns on deep green (£125 for a roll 1005mm long). For every wallpaper, Lick can advise on the shades of paint to complement it. According to Lick’s colour experts, green is a colour of harmony and balance. I could do with a few rolls of that in my household right now.

Encaustic tiles are still very much having a moment and I love this Cape Town design from Ca’ Pietra to bring a swathe of colour to my dreary kitchen floor (£4 each or £100/m²). This family-run business has been all about statement tiles for 30 years and are famed for their bold designs. I’d love to pair these with a pink mosaic tiled splashback. With that kind of Insta-gorgeous backdrop, perhaps I’d finally dust off that Ottolenghi cookbook to make nosh that’s as divine as the surroundings.

Who cares if the paint is peeling off the walls if you’ve got this beauty in the foreground? This Versailles Grand fabric is just the kind of spring lift I need. It’s from Harriet Holgate, offering interior design as well as fabric, paints, furniture and accessories. She now has her collection available to view online, with the option for studio appointments or ordering over the phone. Versailles Grand costs £99/metre but Muddy readers can get an exclusive 20% off any of Harriet’s fabrics by quoting us when ordering. What are you waiting for?

Little Greene launched 36 new paint colours last month in collaboration with the National Trust and I’ve got my eye on the deep earthy red, ‘Arras’ (from £21/litre). The colours are inspired by the hallowed walls of various National Trust properties and this one came from a tapestry in the chapel at the Elizabethan showpiece mansion, Hardwick Hall.

Fired Earth has joined forces with fellow tile titan, Bert & May, in what must surely be a match made in interiors heaven. I’m a little bit in love with the Pradena collection in pink for a star-studded bathroom makeover (from £5.28 per tile), although the Bolonia collection, a collaborative effort from both teams, has a romantic southern Mediterranean feel to it.

It’s one for a tiny loo, some feature panelling or, if you’re a die-hard Gucci superfan, why not paper the whole living room with this geometric repeated G, and make it a temple to Gucci-dom (£386 for a 8,200mm length). It’s loud and utterly outrageous but it sure is the antidote to that Magnolia wall you’re staring at.

‘GG’ is sold by WallpaperSTORE, the curated design shop from the monthly style bible of the same name. If it’s a little too much, I also like Gucci’s delicate herons print on a tourmaline backdrop (£386 for a 3,505mm length).

Wallpapering might feel like a big step but if you go for a ‘wall mural’ to create a single feature wall, the impact can be just as commanding. The Graham and Brown range cater for every springtime whim, from cloudscapes, to jungle scenes, country estate views and this dreamy ‘balloon race’ mural (£35/m2). Once you’ve measured your wall, the website allows you to crop the section of the design that you want so you can even design it around doors, windows or light switches.

If I can’t visit the Mediterranean, I want to bring it home – or the lobsters anyway – with this statement lampshade from Timorous Beasties (From £130). If crustaceans don’t feature on your mood board, there’s sure to be another one to suit, with prints inspired by jungles, lush gardens, wildlife and graffiti.
