45+ cool kitchen design companies we trust

Thinking of a redesign? From classic Shaker styles to sleek contemporary cabinets, these kitchen design companies across the Muddy counties know just what they're doing.

RS Kitchens, Bedford

If you’re looking for a cool urban kitchen or something sleek and elegant (choices, choices), head to this Bedfordshire design studio. It works with some of the industry’s top suppliers and will advise on colours and textures, and incorporating your own ideas, to create a moodboard for your new kitchen. Plus, the company will help you to maximise that all-important space, thanks to natty storage solutions.

Box Interiors, Shefford

This family-run business doesn’t only design and fit kitchens, but bedrooms, bathrooms, office spaces and other design features too (I feel a whole house makeover coming on…). Visit the showroom to discuss your preferred style, finishes and budget, then the team will come to your home to measure up and assess the space for lighting, appliances, flooring and advise on whether any building work is required. You’ll get a free CAD design and quote to check you’re happy before the work goes ahead.

John Lewis of Hungerford, Hungerford

John Lewis of Hungerford green kitchen with wooden work tops and open shelving

A name synonymous with quality in build and design, John Lewis of Hungerford (nothing to do with JL & Partners) has been building stunning handcrafted kitchens for 50 years, so it’s fair to say it knows its onions. The business started with a much-loved OG studio on Park Street in Hungerford and over five decades has expanded to 13 showrooms, plus a techy virtual studio too. Each kitchen is bespoke, using design wizardry to eke out every inch of useable space. This is dream kitchen territory – modern, shaker, traditional, with hidden pantries, pet stations or bars – but comes with the price tag to match.

Huckleberry, Chilterns

Huckleberry believes that we should ‘buy once, and buy well’. To this end, it crafts well-made furniture with an eye to long-lasting style inspired by classical architecture and historic cabinetry, particularly Victorian kitchens and Georgian sculleries. It also creates moveable units so it doesn’t all have to be fitted. Think your favourite Stately pile and its divine kitchen furniture that’s lasted centuries — brought to life in your own home. Very fitting, m’lady.

MPG Kitchens, Chesham

All entirely handcrafted in its Buckinghamshire workshop, MPG Kitchens produces stunning, completely unique designs. The company doesn’t do ready-made showrooms: it responds to your individual space, needs, and style, and crafts a kitchen to meet them. We love this cut-out-the-middle-man approach, and it allows a real focus on individuality.

Kitchen Culture, St Neots

This family-run business prides itself on offering the personal touch that you wouldn’t get from a big chain. Simon, the owner, isn’t just the name you’ll see on the invoice at the end of your project. He’ll be there from first enquiry until the last cabinet is fitted, so you won’t be explaining your vision over and over to different tradespeople. It’s all about the first class service: if you’re fed up of sending complaint emails, this is the company for you.

Inspired Kitchens Cambridge, Hastlingfield

Not just planning a kitchen redesign, but going big with an entire kitchen extension? Then this Haslingfield-based kitchen company could make the process a breeze (well, as smooth as these things can ever be), because it works in partnership with architects and planning negotiators, the Ely Planning Company. So: you can sit back and scroll through inspiring pictures of modern, contemporary and shaker-style kitchens over a cuppa while someone else deals with all the planning applications. Just how we like it.

Now Kitchens, Helston

Darren and Christine have been advising Cornish residents and holiday home owners for more than 12 years from their base in Helston. A NEFF & Siemens 5* Master Partner, Now Kitchens works with you right from the off (or, from your architect’s plans), completing as much or as little of the project as you need within your budget and specifications. From the semi-bespoke pre-built units from British made Masterclass Kitchens, through to the finishing touches, be they specialist worktops and splashbacks or statement lighting and flooring.

Vivid Kitchens, Belper

Led by experienced designer Richard Hewitt, who studied at the prestigious Sheffield Institute of Arts, Vivid Kitchens specialises in British-made, luxury kitchens. Whether you’re a Masterchef-contestant-in-the-making or just love throwing a party, Vivid’s team will guide you through the design process, and help you make those crucial decisions about the flow and features of your new space. Plus, you’ll get an innovative virtual tour to help you visualise the heart of your home before you commit – handy if you’re not sure where to fit the wine cooler…

Yealm Kitchens, Newton Ferrers

Can’t decide whether to go modern or contemporary? It’s a tricky one! Head to Yealm Kitchens, which makes everything bespoke on site (nothing off the shelf here) from traditional to modern, and Fusion Kitchens which happily marries old and new. It’s all handmade and painted to your exact spec, with a two-storey showroom for inspo and a workshop where you can see your dream kitchen coming together. We’ll have the sliding Shaker-style larder in duck egg blue, please!

Exeter Kitchen Store, Marsh Barton

If you’re on a budget, or need a kitchen in a hurry, but still want high-end style and craftsmanship, here’s your place. Exeter Kitchen Store promises to price-match your other quotes (and give you an extra £100 off for your trouble). It’s a family biz that’s created a super simple range to remove the options paralysis. It also employs local tradespeople to do the work, and if you want knobs on (always useful with kitchen cabinets), there’s a 25-year guarantee to boot.

Pop over to this company’s showroom in Bournemouth’s super cool Westbourne area (lots of nice cafes and place to eat near by, just saying) — or it’ll come to you! Chambers Design Company will design, manufacture and install the kitchen of your dreams anywhere in the UK (and beyond).

Davonport Kitchen & Home, Colchester

Style conscious and environmentally conscious? You’ve come to the right place. Not only will the designers at Davonport create the bespoke kitchen of your dreams (hello giant butler sink with hot water tap) but they also have a brilliant eco-friendly approach to the materials they use. Even the wood shavings and offcuts from its chic creations are recycled to heat its factory – so, no fossil fuels necessary. Oh, and we also love the fact that the company offers a dedicated ‘Finishing Touch’ service – think everything from tableware to technology.

Burlanes Interiors, Chelmsford

Shaker, classic, or country? Whatever kitchen style tickles your fancy, we reckon Burlanes has it covered. Designed and handmade to order, each kitchen is completely unique – so, you don’t have to worry about your neighbours stealing your bright ideas (sorry Sharon). Plus, if you’re after an all-singing-all-dancing larder, Burlanes signature larder (aka an absolute storage sensation) is pretty hard to beat. *Checks bank balance and starts kitchen Pinterest board immediately*.

deVOL, Loughborough

This kitchen company doesn’t need an introduction but we’ll give one anyway. Founded by two friends in 1989, deVol began life as a humble furniture shop but evolved into one of the UK’s most successful kitchen companies. deVOL kitchens are classic in design and its ethos is ‘simple furniture, beautifully made.’ All kitchens are made to order in its Leicestershire workshops and it really knows how to nail a traditional wooden kitchen, thanks to amazing quality and craftsmanship. Comfortably producing a wide range of kitchen styles (Shaker, vintage, modern…), the company is meticulous in its design, as well as committed to sustainability. It’s that sort of commitment to efficiency that we approve of — nothing worse than a mess of different workers getting confused, trust us.
