6 pairs of trainers for racking up miles

Whether you've rediscovered your love of running during lockdown, or just wanted an excuse to escape the house (guilty!), it's essential to have right kit. Try on these for size.

Did you know you should be replacing your running shoes every 300 – 500 miles you clock up? So by our calculations we’re definitely in need of a new pair given all the exercise we’ve been doing during these 13 weeks of lockdown (maybe – our maths isn’t that good actually). One thing is for certain though, running trainers look a LOT cooler than they used to – the designs have really stepped up a gear recently. Here are the best of the bunch for combining form and function. Ready, steady, go.

Veja Condor

Cult French fashion trainer brand Veja’s first foray into performance shoes gets a gold star from us – the mesh trainers are made from 53% bio-based and recyclable materials, plus they look très chic in this burgundy and pink colourway. £120

Nike AirZoom Alphafly Next%

Bit of a pro? Released this month, Nike’s newest running kicks have been designed for road or marathon races with a responsive foam sole and 2 Zoom Air units to put a spring in your step. We’re not totally convinced about the garish green but more colours will be released in July.

New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v10

If you’re going for maximum mileage, treat your feet to this pair from New Balance that’ll keep you feeling supported and fresh all the way to the home stretch, with their insanely cushioned sole. Gotta love a flash of animal-print too.

Allbirds Tree Dashers

A traditional and technical running shoe, but made with sustainability in mind. Me likey. These trainers are made from eucalyptus and feature the brand’s signature Merino wool for support and a little added luxury.

Adidas runfalcon

If you’re a running novice and don’t want to commit to a more expensive pair, these lightweight trainers are a great alternative, made for shorter runs or treadmill sprints.

Nike Infinity React

Another from Nike, these shoes are designed to reduce injuries, with a wide, rocker-shaped sole to keep you on your feet. One injury-prone Muddy runner says they’re the best she’s ever worn. They’re available in a range of colourways (we love the cool pops of neon on this pair), or you can design your own.
