Hey, sexy pants!
Hey sexy pants! We've found 5 chic lingerie brands to spice up your life this Valentine's Day. And - bonus - they're all British.
Yes, your faithful M&S full briefs and sports bra may be comfy, but this is the one time of the year we advocate ditching the greying granny pant and treating yourself to something a little sexier. That doesn’t mean going in wild in the PVC aisle at Ann Summers (although, be my guest!) but getting all dressed up in a fresh new set of kecks can do wonders for a girl’s mood.
We’ve picked out some seriously slinky sets from British brands you need on your fashion radar.
Big-busted gals, rejoice! Katherine Payne from Somerset created her luxe lingerie line Katherine Hamilton after struggling to find beautiful bras in her size. Now her brand is stocked in Selfridges, Harrods and Net-a-Porter (go lady!). Sizes run from 26-38 and D-HH but there are no dowdy designs here – the pieces are mega chic and made with luxe laces and French silk. We love the Mariella French lace bra, which comes in Black, Coral and Boysenberry (above) at £160 each – the eyelash detail certainly has our pulse racing, and with the option for matching French knickers (£90), thong (£78) and suspender belt (£120), you can mix and match to your heart’s content.
One way to ensure we’ll love a set of lingerie (or, well, anything, really) is to slap a Liberty print on it, which is why this Florus set, £104 from Brighton-based Ayten Gasson, is right up our street. This is a brand with some serious eco credentials, as they use upcycled vintage lace as well as organic fabrics such as bamboo and peace silk, as well as only making a set number of pieces at a time to avoid unnecessary waste (all the more reason to scoop up your favourites, then). Pick up a matching silk robe or eye mask for the full boudoir effect.
Is there anything more decadent than a marabou trim on lingerie? It conjures up images of Marilyn Monroe swanning about in mules in The Seven Year Itch, and practically requires the addition of sultry eyeliner à la Brigitte Bardot. Our pick of the bunch is this Diana Soft Bra, £195 from Gilda & Pearl, perhaps paired with the matching Diana Pom Pom Thong (words we never thought we’d put together), £58. Feeling spendy? Pop the slinky Mia Midi Slip over the top, a snip at £600 (although frankly it’s so beautiful we’d have no qualms about popping out in it for a pint of milk, which’ll help the cost-per-wear).
If the thought of lace, leather and feathers near your bits is enough to bring you out in hives, keep things simple with Rossell England‘s collection of cotton and silk lingerie. After all, who says simple can’t be sexy? The bras are non-underwired for maximum comfort, so not one for ladies who need the extra oomph of a push-up, but styles such as the Kite bra (above), £85, include side boning to keep everything *ahem* in place. The bras come in A to E cups so everyone can enjoy, and the colour palette is a joy, with blush pinks, cobalts and daffodil yellows alongside your standard black and white. The best bit? You can get matching PJs and robes – ideal if your perfect Valentine’s Day is more sofa snooze than striptease.
Not to get all girl power about it, but the sexiest thing about lingerie is the confidence a great fitting set gives you (plus, it makes ALL your clothes look ten times better – trust us). If you’re sick of shelling out for ill-fitting bras, then Beija London could be the answer to your prayers. Their bras cater for AA-H cups and are cut differently depending on your category (bralettes for the smaller end of the scale, serious scaffolding for bustier babes), but all in the same chic colour ways and fabrics. We love this leopard-print Stand Out Bra, £55, shown here in Carbon Blue.
