Gotta Have It
The grimmest day of the year is here. But here's how to make Blue Monday blue in a pleasingly different way this year (not like that, you pervs!)
Back in my clubbing days, Blue Monday was an absolute banger by New Order. Now the phrase has taken on a far less fun meaning – it’s the third Monday in January when everyone reaches peak skintness, miserableness, boredom and sunlight-starvation, post Christmas. Yuck. But instead of wallowing this year how about embracing the blues? In particular Classic Blue, the Pantone Color Institute’s colour of the year for 2020, a a shade which is apparently calming and cheering. We have sniffed out five fittingly coloured Muddy treats, *Jason Donovan voice* especially for youuu. Then you just need to whack Madonna’s True Blue on the SONOS (speaking of bangers) and you can’t fail to have a good one.
A fresh, spring-like blue nail polish is a proper palette cleanser after all the reds and sparkles of the festive season. This & Other Stories one looks chic with classic blue denim.
Neal's Yard Remedies' iconic blue glass bottles and jars are a beauty industry classic. And there's more blueness inside this one - divinely fragranced lavender bath salts that'll put you in a dream-like trance.
There's no problem in the world a nice cup of tea can't solve (sorry, the self-help industry). This cheery new Oliver Bonas mug comes with your initial on it so none of your thieving colleagues can steal it. Er, not that such things happen at Muddy of course.
I treated myself to these hush pyjamas recently and can vouch for their excellence - the fabric is soft, the cut is flattering and they're currently in the sale so chop chop. Staying in bed all day is a valid way to survive Blue Monday, right?
OK, admittedly this isn't a little treat and may not help on the January bank account blues front. But, my, isn't she pretty? Hill & Friends is a cult brand, adored by fashion editors and run by an ex Mulberry bag genius, Emma Hill. This blue beauty is currently massively reduced in the sale so technically it's a bargain, isn't it?
