There's nothing like box fresh white trainers to put a spring in your step. The good news for the planet is that this lot tick the stylish and sustainable box too.
Lockdown’s officially put my heels into semi-retirement – it’s high days and holidays for them now. But trainers? I love them; I live in them. They’ll pep up any spring outfit and give your pedi-deprived toes some shelter until the weather warms up. Better still, you can get a guilt-free fashion fix, because the hottest trainer brands right now are committed to producing kicks that are stylish, sustainable and with a green footprint, using materials made from bananas, grapes, fish skin and recycled plastic bottles. All brilliantly bonkers and kinder to the planet.
Good News x HM
Possibly one of the most exciting (and wearable) HM designer collaborations. Good News is a British brand known for its unwavering commitment to sustainability. The results are a fun, funky collection with a smaller environmental footprint. We think you’ll love the 70s styling mixed with futuristic materials made from banana plants, grapes and recycled rubber.

A trainer that needs absolutely no introduction – adidas Originals’ Stan Smiths. A fashion icon, but now with an eco-luxe twist. Part of a Stella McCartney collab, they’re made from vegan leather, have rows of gradient stars instead of spots and two sets of laces – white and rainbow.
A Scandi brand with a green footprint. Woden trainers are made using fish leather (a waste product), recycled plastic bottles and eco-friendly cork soles, combining fashion and functionality without blowing up the planet. They’re also ridiculously comfortable.
A sustainability powerhouse and cult classic, Veja uses upcycled materials where possible and is fully transparent about their shoe production from the chemicals they use to the wages they pay. It’s little wonder celebs, royals and fashion peeps have fallen head over heels for the Parisian brand.
Saye Vegan’s retro styling is brought bang up to date by reusing and recycling materials to create trainers that’ll last. Designed in Spain and produced in Portugal, Saye is big on operational transparency and boosts your green cred by planting two trees for every one pair of trainers sold.
Everyone needs an all white pair of trainers in their armoury. These slick Yatay kicks have laces made from hemp and the upper textiles of the soles are made from resins and recycled rubbers. And for extra points they are machine washable and 100% cruelty-free.

A traditional and technical running shoe, but made with sustainability in mind. Me likey.
