<p>East Dulwich is cool. Not in a graffiti-scrawled, underground clubs and street food way, think more farmers markets, art galleries and notable restaurants. Things to get you in the mood to move include tree-lined Goose Green park, an enviable high street in Lordship Lane and plenty of attractive housing, some with an added splash of street art. </p>

<p>Locals love <a href="https://oruspace.co/east-dulwich" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oru</a>, a co-working hub, yoga studio and Sri Lankan-inspired café. <a href="https://www.kartuli.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kartuli’s</a> a gorgeous Georgian restaurant in an historic building on Lordship Lane, with a great wine menu to match the mezze and chicken mtsvadi. For top end contemporary Japanese fodder, <a href="https://yamamomo.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yama Momo</a> delivers, particularly the octopus and scallop nigiri. Some say the best pizza in London comes out of <a href="https://yardsalepizza.com/shop/east-dulwich/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yard Sale</a> – order the garlic roasted aubergine, parmesan crumb and fresh basil for the win (have it delivered or squeeze into one of the few seats inside). Classy <a href="https://www.franklinsrestaurant.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Franklins</a>, with its white table cloths and modern British comfort food menu, is perfect on a cold winter day or for Sunday lunch, think pork chops, carrots and rocket. If you’re craving a bit of pub action, <a href="https://thepalmerstondulwich.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Palmerston</a> is always on point thanks to its cosy backroom dining area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>East Dulwich&#8217;s desirable Indies include <a href="https://forest.london/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Forest London,</a> an urban oasis of plants and homewares plus workshops too. You can settle down with a new book and a coffee in the café at <a href="https://ryebooks.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rye Books</a>, stop off at <a href="https://arapina.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arapina bakery</a> for freshly baked bread and cakes and pick up the freshest fruit and veg from Franklin’s Farm Shop, run by the team behind one of the area’s best restaurants next door (see above).&nbsp;</p>

<p>You can swim year-round at <a href="https://www.brockwelllido.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brockwell Lido</a>, an Art Deco, Grade II-listed open air pool with a café that’s a 12 min bus ride away from Goose Green. <a href="https://www.horniman.ac.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Horniman Museum</a> in neighbouring Forest Hill&#8217;s a fascinating day out for adults and kids, with its natural history displays and blooming garden. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture-nbsp">CULTURE&nbsp;</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dulwich Picture Gallery</a> was designed by Sir John Soane in 1811 and houses a jaw-dropping collection of Old Masters (and a decent café!).&nbsp;<a href="https://www.picturehouses.com/cinema/east-dulwich" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Picture House</a> cinema has a rolling programme of art house movies, and a great bar too.&nbsp;Every May there’s the annual <a href="https://dulwichfestival.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dulwich Festival</a> celebrating the area’s resident artists, including open house events, talks and music.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://www.butterflylanenursery.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Butterfly Lane East Dulwich Nursery</a> cares for kids from 3mths to 5yrs, who are taken on daily outings to parks, libraries and even the Horniman Museum for outside play and stimulation. If you’re looking for somewhere small, <a href="http://littlefingersmontessori.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Fingers Montessori Nursery</a> is ideal – a converted Edwardian house with a private garden and lots of extra curricular actives like yoga, music and French. <a href="http://mothergoosenurseries.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mother Goose</a> in Upland Road has its own wildlife garden.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There’s an unusually high number of quality schools on your doorstep, in fact it&#8217;s the prime reason so many young families want to move here. For primary years, <a href="https://www.harrisprimaryeastdulwich.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harris Primary School East Dulwich</a> is Ofsted Outstanding, while <a href="https://dkh.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dog Kennel Hill Primary School</a> and <a href="https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Goose Green Primary School</a> are rated Good. The area&#8217;s Independent schools <a href="https://www.dulwich.org.uk/senior-school" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dulwich College</a>, <a href="https://www.jags.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">James Allen’s Girls’ School</a> (JAGS) and <a href="https://www.alleyns.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alleyn’s School</a> are all part of a charitable foundation set up by actor Edward Alleyn, and each has a prep or junior school with selective admission. State secondary schools in the area are not to be dismissed, <a href="https://www.chartereastdulwich.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Charter School East Dulwich</a> has a great reputation locally and is rated Ofsted Good. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s a bougie bit of London, but East Dulwich actually has some edgy street art. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE </h2>



<p>It might not have a tube stop, but Dulwich does have an overland station from which you can reach London Bridge in 15 mins. Nearby Peckham Rye station connects to Victoria, Dalston and Clapham Junction. If you prefer car, you&#8217;re a five-minute drive from the South Circular and just under an hour from the M25. Bus routes from East Dulwich are plentiful, easily linking you all over south London, including Lewisham, Streatham, and into central London, to Tottenham Court Road and Aldgate. </p>
