Go Tache! Don’t forget Movember

We won’t see many people apart from the bin men this month, but we can still support our favourite causes. November is men’s health month and Muddy’s here for it.

Remember the good ol’ days (i.e. 2019) when the men in our lives grew ridiculous moustaches over November to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental and physical health? And our male colleagues in the office shuffled around with various stages of upper lip growth without being banished to the toilets with shaving foam and a razor? And fellow commuters bashfully wore their new hairy appendages while chugging down their coffee?

And it was funny and it was heartwarming because we all knew why they were doing it: they were raising money to help prevent testicular cancer (the most common cancer for men between 15 and 39), prostate cancer (one in eight men will be diagnosed with this disease in their lifetime) and suicide (the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK).

So what’s going to happen this year when no one will see and rejoice in the nation’s moustache growing? How else can we pledge our solidarity to the cause when the country’s men are already the hairiest we’ve ever seen them thanks to nearly a full year of working from home and zero grooming demands?

Luckily, there’s loads to be getting on with – lockdown or no lockdown. Firstly, Move for Movember is encouraging us to run or walk 60km over the month, no mean feat and definitely worth sponsoring should you or your menfolk take up the challenge. Mo Your Own Way – for who doesn’t love a Fleetwood Mac pun? – is about setting your own challenge, be it a test of physical endurance or something gruelling that will punish you in some way (er, no Popchips for a month?). And then, of course, you could just document your man’s Movember moustache-growing on social media, bringing in the fundraising pennies that way – and look, here’s Liam Payne’s efforts to channel Errol Flynn if you want ‘tache inspo.

Fancy something a little less strenuous? Well, L’Oréal Paris has renewed its support for Movember for the third year running and one euro from every bottle sold of its limited edition L’Oréal Men Expert BarberClub Long Beard and Skin Oil will be gifted to the charity. Find it here.
