Feet up! What to watch on TV this week

Don't miss our weekly round-up of the best things on the box. Iconic panel show reboots, big-budget sci-fi, and a cheeky little baking competition... here's what to watch this week.

Great British Bake Off, 21 Sept, C4

It’s back! Boil the kettle and muster your tastiest treat — watching-Bake-Off-hunger is akin to human rights abuse. 12 plucky new contestants — including the show’s first ever entirely vegan baker — will be facing the floury trials set upon them by Paul and Prue, starting this Tuesday. Let the bad puns, wholesome vibes, and show-stopping bakes begin.

Foundation, 24 Sept, Apple TV

A staggeringly expensive adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s era-defining sci-fi series, this 10-parter follows a band of exiles as they attempt to salvage civilisation amidst the fall of the Galactic Empire. Sounds a bit clichéd today, but the Foundation books pioneered these sci-fi tropes — this is basically an epic, big-budget look into genre history starring the ever watchable Jared Harris.

Manhunt, 20 Sept, ITV

Following the knockout success of a first series back in 2019, Martin Clunes reprises the role of Colin Sutton in this satisfyingly nitty gritty crime drama. The storyline follows the case of a serial rapist in South East London, 2009, and will develop in four parts over this week. It’s realistic, unflashy crime writing, and entirely gripping.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 21 Sept, Sky Max

After six years off the air, this comedy pop panel show is being rebooted for Sky with a new look, a new host in Greg Davies (reaching peak exposure soon surely?), and new team captains Daisy May Cooper and Noel Fielding. Expect scathing humour, tuneless humming, and musical celeb guests.

Drag Race UK, 23 Sept, BBC3

Big lashes, big heels, bigger personalities. The first two series of Drag Race UK were a huge, surprisingly heart-warming success, and the show’s tackling its third series with a hefty arsenal of celebrity judges. Nicola Coughlan, Matt Lucas and Elton John (!) are just some of the names you can expect.

Taskmaster, 23 Sept, C4

The beloved (and BAFTA-winning) comedy game show is back for series 12, promising a fresh new crop of celebrities making fools of themselves. If you’re not familiar, the setup sees five TV stars take on a series of ridiculous challenges and end up in painfully funny situations. We’re talking tasks like: paint a picture of a howling wolf on this teapot, as it spins on a turntable, without touching it, whilst naming 20 American states. This series includes Alan Davies and Victoria Coren Mitchell, while Greg Davies (there he is again!) continues to lounge on his comedically large throne.
