Kelly Reilly (and 5 Brit actresses winning Hollywood)
Please tell me I’m not the only one obsessed with Kelly Reilly as the feisty female lead in Yellowstone? Okay, good. Read on for how she’s leading a crack team of UK actresses kicking US ass in 2022.
Kelly Reilly

It’s Kelly Reilly’s world. We just live in it. Ever since the British actor (fun fact: she started out in Prime Suspect) hit our screens as Beth, the bad ass daughter of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton in Yellowstone, we have been hooked by her killer one-liners and epic right hook. From the way she lights her cigarette to her unmistakable swagger, she’s a red hot ball of fury and attitude and we cannot take our eyes off her. Also: we totally wouldn’t mess.
Catch her next in: Yellowstone seasons 1-4, available to stream now on Paramount+
Naomi Ackie

Ever get the feeling you’ve seen a face somewhere before? Take a very good look at hot new British talent Naomi Ackie because if you don’t recognise her already (we’ll give you a clue: The End of the F***ing World) then you’ll sure as hell remember her come Christmas. This is the year the actor from east London is poised to play Whitney Houston in the biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Oh and she’s also been signed up for the Zoe Kravitz-directed, Channing Tatum-starring Pussy Island, currently in production. Clearly, you can take the girl out of Walthamstow.
Catch her next in: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, in cinemas December 2022
Emilia Jones

She’s the breakout star of the Oscar-winning best picture CODA, and we’re about to see a hella lot more of Emilia Jones. She’s come a long way from childhood roles in Doctor Who to her big Hollywood break in supernatural Netflix show Locke & Key. We’re not sure we’ll ever get over her connection to Aled Jones, he of The Snowman’s Walking in the Air fame (guys, he’s her DAD!) but we can’t wait to see her take the lead in Cat Person, the hotly awaited movie version of Kristen Roupenian’s viral short story. Spoiler alert: it’s going to be epic.
Catch her next in: Cat Person, currently in production
Lashana Lynch

Just gonna casually pop a Bond girl here. Most actors aim for Bond towards the end of their career. Not Lashana Lynch, for her it was only the beginning. Next up: she’s playing Miss Honey, everyone’s favourite teacher in the new film adaptation of Matilda, alongside Emma Thompson and Stephen Graham (excited, much?) Oh and did we mention the Bob Marley biopic? Do keep up.
Catch her next in: Matilda, out December 2022
Simone Ashley

Corsets at the ready! Bridgerton’s breakout star has a lot more to offer than making us all hot under the frilled collar alongside hot Dukes (she starred in the dashing period romp as Lady Kate) and classroom capers (as the brilliant Olivia in Sex Education). We can’t wait to see what’s next from the girl from Camberley. First up: a Squid Game-esque anime short, Bulldog.
Catch her next in: (or her voice, anyway) animated short Bulldog, currently in post-production
Jessie Buckley

If you haven’t already caught her gracing your screen in Chernobyl or Netflix’s The Lost Daughter (and you’ve been where exactly?) then you won’t want to miss her mega turn in Men, this summer’s hot fantasy horror from Alex ‘The Beach‘ Garland. Particularly excited about the forthcoming Wicked Little Letters alongside Olivia Colman. Woman power right there.
Catch her next in Women Talking alongside Ben Whishaw and Rooney Mara, out February 2023.
